Mesas are fucking amazing. Celestial and Oceanic are both really nice displays of Mesa preamps.

Also, The Ocean and Tombs use Mesas in unison with Marshall or Diezel amps and their sound is heavy as fuck. And Gojira.

I dont mean any disrespect about my views on mesa's but in the last few years ive realised that the sound that i like most is the traditional british sound...ie Marshalls...Laney's and old Orange's/Matamps. I dont really get on with anything else...but that just personal tone perference than saying one amp is better than another.

Me too, man, I know what you mean. Amp gain for me is really tough to get right. Vintage British Marshall is basically all I'd trust indefinitely. It's just, I love hearing all these guys use other gear for such specific sounds. Matamp, Orange, Sunn, Hiwatt, I like all those a lot, but I'd still want to have a bunch of other pedals or amps for different sounds. While my Fryette I don't think I could ever do without and I could be happy with just it and a fuzz.

I'm with you Gadzen, I pretty much bleed OrMat -- it's just crazy to me that Mesas have become so passe in today's market.

I don't get how Mesa has lost its charm either.

for the sound they do, they are really great.

I think the influx of the german amps and all the other high gain stuff has made Mesa a bit of an old metal amp rather than new metal.

Sounds like you put a lot of work into it and modded into something I would like to hear as well. but overall never liked mesa's

like for the examples listed here as good mesa work..

only Isis release I enjoyed was Mosquito Control. Everything else I didn't give a shit about.

The Ocean is meh at best for me. it's metalcore, tone is nothing special or noteworthy

Tombs I like but I honestly can't recall anything they have done after listening to them, they are just pleasing to me as I hear them and just wish they would reform Anodyne again cause that band was far better.

Gorjira boring horseshit. Boring as fuck on cd boring as fuck live. I about fell asleep when they opened for fuck I don't even remember who... maybe it was Behemoth..?

Diezel amps sound like shit to me.

I'm actually with slk on the bands for the most part. I hate gojira and the ocean. I've never heard their records but I've seen both bands live and was completely turned off by both of them. And I don't care for Isis. Always sounded like a low rent version of neurosis to me. Don't know oceanic or celestial.

Buuuut, I love mesas. Speaking of which, neurosis is actually a great example of the Mesa and Marshall combo sounding great. Its crazy that Mesa have become an underrated amp now. I've owned a mark iii and an old two channel "racktifier", both of which were amazing. I regret selling the mark iii for the price that I did. The dual rec I actually traded for my amp now, a Marshall jmp 2203. I don't regret that at all, but it was a killer amp. I think a bunch of nu metal fools who didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground gave the rectifiers a bad name. I particularly love the old two channel ones, but even the newer rectifiers sound great in the right hands. And the mark series up through the mark iv is just amazing. A totally different beast from other mesas and really uniquely voiced. I'd love to have another mark iii and it'd be awesome to have a iv. The best amps from the ii era are total unobtanium, but they're amazing and I'd give a toe to have one.

All that is to say, that Mesa rig looks fucking sweet.

Yea that might be my hang up with most mesa's cause I've never really fooled around with one but have seen countless bands use them who sound like ass, and jammed with guys who had them that made em sound like ass. so I've never really wanted to fool around with them.

I am so relieved to know I'm not the only one that does not care of Gojira. It seems like this band is the second coming of Death or something to some people.

Yea I've completely never understood why they are held in such high regard. I mean I've gave them more than a fair chance and each album I take a listen and well goddamn I'm still puzzeled. They are the second coming of numetal to my ears.

Damn, I didn't know that the guys from Tombs were in Anodyne. Pretty rad. Don't own anything from Tombs but I dig them when I hear them. Anodyne was the shit.

I'm with you pretty much 100%. The heavier tones I try to go after are much more in the Sabbath, HOF, Orange Goblin type range. I do love me some good chunky thrash and old school hardcore/crossover tones too. I hate that newer djent sounding shit for the most part. Sounds like someone electrified a fucking rubberband and let it flop about.

And thanks. :thumb:
