Pallbearers Single coil tele sounded thick and huge tonight. Wasn't sure how he was getting that tone. Answer=they all use a pharaoh
the drummer did bash his kit into submission and there was a bit of a pause, but he got it fixed fairly quickly. I hate to say this, but if they turned it down just a teeny bit, They'd sound a bit better. It got muddy at times and I know thats kinda what they're going for, but using the dirt they had I like to keep my amp on the verge of breakup before hitting it with the fuzz. With the amp allready getting into fuzz territory, adding dimed fuzz on top gets to where ya cant make out chord changes and shit, which is what I like about Pallbearer the most. That or they need some 200 watt dunwich amps to get what they are going for

or to boost that Pharaoh with something for a bit more clarity behind it. i also use my Tele with the Pharaoh quite a bit, boosted by a Melx V2 Fuzz. that combo can't be beat for my sound, out of everything i've tried so far that is the best, but getting about any nice lighter OD or really dirty distortion or something behind it really helps tighting up the sound of it.

Chatted with the Royal Thunder peeps. Very nice and chill people. I do like that band and they nailed the sound they have on the atl recordings.

Ancient vvisdom- I had very low expectations so when they weren't immediately terrible, i was pleasantly surprised. Seems like they are trying to change their sound up a bit, I did like the use of an acoustic guitar and chains as percussion instruments, but still not that great. they finished with the hail satan song which I cant take seriously, kinda like praising the Easter bunny .

We're lame and have jobs, so we left after pallbearer. Wanted to stay but 4 hours of sleep is kinda the minimum for being remotely awake at work. I hate weekday shows. And waking up early... it blows.

that's awesome that it went better for them in seattle. glad the sound was good. i guess portland was just one of those days.

about the heads, i noticed when they were setting up that it looked like dude with the rock master had another head as well. they started to put it on top and it looked like they decided to set it on the floor, so he might have been running dual heads. i didn't get a very good look at it, but it may have been an old sunn or something that kind of looked like one. whatever it was, that rig sounded great.

secondly, so i've been playing around with Ritual pedal, and although the thing is a monster, the one thing i didn't like is that on full (guitar) volume when i hit a note the fuzz and volume drops slightly, and then comes back but when i roll back a little bit on the guitar volume it sounds fine...I asked Mark and he said thats the way its suppose to sound...so the pedal is fine. My only issue was that when i would switch pedals or clean i had to turn the volume back up to full...so constantly switching volume.

So decided to put my MXR Distortion 3 before the Ritual and set it to just be a treble type pedal, no distortion and no tone, just volume and that takes away the issue, but it adds a lot of top end to the sound which i don't necessarily like...so i'm a little perplexed...don't know what to do...its kinda spoiling the Ritual for me, and i don't want that!

thats what i figured and Mark confirmed it too...i'm thinking of getting an EQ pedal, which i kinda need anyway, since my amp has no EQ control over clean channel (rocker 30)...

just get used to adjusting the volume knob when playing clean. it's a pain in the ass, i know, but it's by far the simplest, best method to do things.

an EQ would be great too, if you need one. i use one at the beginning of my chain to cut a bit of treble and add some clean volume boost. but it does not make up for not having the volume at full blast on your pickups.

I can't go and grab my 2x15 and load it in my truck by myself any more, but I can sling a guitar on for about an hour and bear through it. Which is the main thing I need to be able to do for the next 2 weeks, after that we have a 3 week no show period, which is when I'm hoping to get some treatments. I'm applying for health insurance this week, and unfortunately had to take out a credit card to cover the deductible if I need surgery. This thing ain't gonna beat me, it might slow me down for a bit, but it ain't gonna beat me.

Good attitude to have man. Shit like this is like a speed hump, you do what you need to get over it and live with it, but it doesn't take over your life.

I've never had a much physical issues, but i was told i had Chrons a few years ago, and after about 3 years (when I'm in my 40's) i'll be the top percentiles for bowel cancer...so every 6months ill need to get a camera shoved up my insides...but like you say, its not going to win.

yeah, i would probably put it at the end of the chain, for some final tone adjustments...but yeah the volume knob is what i've been toying with. I guess, its only an issue when I'm playing at home, when it gets to rehearsals and live, that Ritual is going to be on the majority of the time, so it would only require very infrequent volume adjustment.

Yeah, worked that out too...my Wah, which is at the beginning of the chain has almost no effect with the Ritual, which isn't great either!

pharaoh and lstr are totally different. they're both muff based and seem to do fine with other pedals before them. i don't have a wah so i can't speak for that but never heard of anyone having this issue with them.

FF has very low input impedance compared to most pedals and interacts heavily with the circuit in front of the pedal. It usually does not like low impedance inputs like the output of many pedals esp op amp pedals.
