yeah i'm on the fence about boost pedals, i'm not looking for anything to replace what I already use and they ARE useful if not inspirational.
Yeah I'm with you all on the Tubescreamers, the most overrated pedal ever. But I love nice gritty overdrives like the Fingerprint or the Arc Flash that can do fuzz. And the Les Lius clone I built has awesome tones within. And boosts do have their uses. I built a EP clone with tone switch mods. Use that as a master vol for my pedal board.
Tubescreamer is still that one thing I can't quite bring myself to buy… I have a very old SD-2 but it is still not a TS and I like ODs Ok and stuff, but yeah I like things that can be turned down for grit VS a pedal that all the way up is a little grit, like a Arc Flash or a RAT [which I am finding I like more then I remember liking them a long time ago… RATS are awesome] because you know… a good amp bla bla bla, boosts are fun and there needs to be more boosts with tone controls
Tube screamers have their applications, but I'm with you on turning back to get less, not cranking up.
They generally don't sound good until your power tubes are cooking anyway.
I'm starting to move away from that sound though.
But some people make it sound awesome.

Still need to build up my TS pcb. I dug when Chankz let me borrow his Pearl OD which is pretty much a TS with a better EQ. Made everything tighter and chuggable
