I love Siamese Dream and rate it ahead of the overrated Nevermind, but Superunknown is superior to both in every way, particularly the songwriting.

They say the new album title, Monuments to an Elegy, is melodramatic.
No more melodramatic than Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Last time I checked, [Mellon Collie] sold 10 million copies. Not to make myself seem the victim—because, like, every kid gets bullied in their own way—but actually I was bullied as a kid for being melodramatic. I was bullied as a kid for being into reading, in the arts and stuff like that, so to me that kind of criticism is more about our repressive, fearful society. When people attack words, I always find it really interesting because words are really quite innocent for the most part.
I'm a heterosexual, which in many ways makes me stranger because I'm definitely not supposed to be sensitive.

i can totally see billy cutting someone off in traffic, almost causing a car accident. someone yells at him, gives him the finger.
billy rolls down his window and yells back, "last time i checked, mellon collie sold 10 million copies" and drives away cackling maniacally

also the way they count a double album as 2 albums for every copy sold is fuckin bullshit but at least billy calgon gets to hold onto selling 10 million albums for the rest of his life now

That's a pretty shitty analogy. He's just saying that an albums reception isn't based on what it's called, but what it is. He could have named another bands album, I guess. But how would that make him look any better?
As for the hetrosexual line, that was just corny as hell. Even if he was just pointing out his androgynouty(? I have no idea how to make that adjectival). Not a winning move at all. Especially after all that Devi stuff.

His stressing being heterosexual I understand being in his age group and seeing the press thrown at him at the time when the accusations and claims were killing words.
It is a TOTALLY different era, and some folks don't get that on both sides of the fence.

what about the interviews in what, 94 or 95 I think it was with Jim DeRogatis where he accused the chicago music press of setting him up with a transexual woman to humiliate him?! You can argue about whether or not he made good music (I've always hated them) but dude's always been a fucking jerkoff.

Sounds about right for the press of the time.
Although to be fair, he walked in to a lot of it with his choice of association/management/backers - he had the Illinois Entertainer and the Shanahan empire behind him for ages.
So a lot of people were looking to knock him off the pedestal.
It was a strange time for music in the city though, that much I can attest.

See he always claimed that people were jealous of his success and wanting to knock him off his pedestal and what the shit ever and look, I live in australia so I wasn't there, but at the time, to me it just seemed like widdle baby crying that the cool kids didn't like his shitty corporate rock band. To accuse everyone of being out to get you just because some people don't like your music? Dude's always come across like a petulant child. Not ALL of it can be the big bad media being out to get him.
(although fuck Jim DeRogatis too).

yeah I've always hated the dude AND his music but the latter's a personal taste thing. This morning I've listened to Swans, The Afghan Whigs and Red House Painters, all bands I LOVE with people who are or have been varying degrees of total dickholes as front men, so, you know. I mean shit I'd argue in the case of the Afghan Whigs Dulli being such a piece of shit at the time is what makes 'gentlemen' such a classic record. Same may apply for those of you who dig SP?
