fuck yes! exactly what I was talking about. glad I didn't draw up the graph myself  what about squeezing the LFO making it positive or negative? like if I compressed that wave in the graph and put it under or over the line, anything like that?

thanks buddies

I don't think ruiner knows

You'll want to do attenuation and then +/- offset for that. Kbit's image from a couple of pages ago nails all of this:

do? .... it doesn't DO anything... it's furniture. Am I doing it wrong?

resincum wrote:is there anything out there that will cut a section of an lfo or just use the top or bottom half if that makes sense? I know a vca can help me adjust how big or small it is but what if I just want a slice of it or squeeze it
Yeah that graph explain rectifiers. A VCA will help 'remove' part of a waveform/LFO completely...like turning down the volume. Or an attenuator will do that.

...VCA stands for voltage controlled amplifier...so... obviously?

..I thought a VCA would just make it smaller or bigger, didn't think it would remove anything :idk:

If you open and close the vca at a different rate than the lfo (ie lfo is slower than CV controlling the vca), it will cut part off.

Ring Mod can be used like a bipolar vca (like moddemix). Like send a square wave at 10 hz and ring mod it to a sine lfo at 1 hz, you get a choppy sine...or sync it to cut off the middle or ends or something (like a curved middle that drops to zero).

That new Metzger Archimedes is a bipolar vca (like a ring mod) with rectifiers...so you can mess with and offset each half independently before recombining into a new wave. Pretty good setup.

dude seriously thanks for all the info. I need to experiment with this stuff asap. been racking my brains trying to figure it out. it's SO SIMPLE

Resin, easiest way to get this done: https://mutable-instruments.net/modules/blinds/

That'll attenuate and offset for you. Module is indispensable (buy more fuckin VCAs ya'll)

Best part of ring mod and rectifiers is they can be passive and cheap.

Lightning wave stuff is good for this (draw your own lfos +plus tap tempo and other stuff like one shot and you get a pedal ).

There are other ways too...like using a trigger sequence to run envelopes and voltage controlling like rise and fall can be fun and make more interesting modulation. Blind Monk has that programa module that let's you trigger rise, fall, and reset to zero to kind of draw you own envelopes and lfos.
