Re: What is in the post? The thread of and for GAS!
Cool shit came in today:

I thought the delay time on the SMM might be a little too short, and I was right.
After about 20 minutes I knew it wasn't for me.
But it's still awesome, and so is the Fuzzrite.
Way dope.

what is this? apologies if it makes me a member of the ignoscenti to ask. looks inspiring and may be something i know but don't recognise repackaged. in any case i hope it lives up to the wait for you (happy christmas!).
re the demo tape fuzz, would be interested to hear your opinion on that when you've had time to play with it. i saw somewhere else on this thread that you had the seppuku kassette noise whatever (can't remember exact name, too long ago) and i wonder if they cover some of the same hissy-compressed-railbashing ground.
having chosen poison ivy for your avatar your judgement is proven in my book.
many thanks.

It's a Fuzzrocious Rat King. See Uncle Grandfather's demo below:

That Seppuku pedal is not like the demo tape fuzz. It is a wacky glitchy delay pedal, and the demo tape fuzz is, well, a fuzz. So buy them both.

That's way right for sure.terminator wrote:Fuzzrite is right, amirite?
It has a little less output than I'm used to (bluebeard, turbo rat), but sounds great nonetheless.

Re: What is in the post? The thread of and for GAS!
Man, youre gonna love it. My chain is second voice-fuck mountain-buzzz-unpleasant surprise-bitquest-rusty box. So many fuzztones available.
Mini into starved octave Buzzz into Rusty Box is my favorite sound on my board. Suboctave into Buzzz is the sound of the world ending.
Its seriously one of the most versatile fuzzes ive played.
i miss my TAFM, but i sold it to get a depth charge, which i sold to get my Buzzz, so it was a noble sacrifice.
As soon as I get my money straight, I'm having a marsh chapel build to go after my BitQuest for post verb/delay fuzziness.

make sure you test the buzzz before the fuck too, i prefer running buzzz -> mini but it depends what you're going for.
it's such a good pedal though. definitely my favourite fuzz right now.

Ive found that buzzz before mini is better for synthy fuzzy stuff and accents the lows/low mids. mini into buzzz seems to add some punchy high mids and cuts through a bit better. I keep flippng them around trying to find the best sound. My only complaint with the Buzzz is that I cant settle on just one setting. Its making my no tweaking mid set preference hard to stick to.

many thanks, ugly nora. and thanks uncle grandfather for the classy demo. this may be worth the wait. some deadly sounds to be found.
particularly fond of the fuzztone at 2m30s which totally nails the intro to the cramps perppermint lounge version of wig-hat. momentary feedback looper is nice extra to have in the same box. diode switch could be interesting too. if the diodes are socketed (easy to socket if not, if you want to get into it. tiny strip of vero and a few sockets) you could also try experimenting with options there to warp your tone palette in other evil directions.
never been a rat fan. more into octave fuzz. but this has been tweaked beyond stock to something interesting. no schemo available at first glance which is a drag. have never built anything with an op-amp to date so this may be the time.
might try grafting the standard rat schemo onto a basic feedback looper then modding into the rat to see what happens. am more a maker than a buyer, unless it's something hideously complicated. money (always severely limited) tends to go on the big stuff i can't make. but will definitely look into this one in more depth.
anyway i hope it brings you a lot of pleasure when you get it.

i really liked the seppuku kasette thing (as i remember, it was a while ago). but not sure what is going on at hq. contact a bit slow perhaps.
wasn't overwhelmed by the demo tape fuzz in the yt clip i saw, but did like some of the muddiness. though after bedroom-bound teenage years fighting that muddiness on one of these (which i still have in a cupboard somewhere) i do have some reservations about inviting it into my sound again, beyond mere novelty nostalgia.
but i hope it brings you what you demand of it.
thanks for the info ugly nora.

yeah, i found that running the mini after seemed to smooth it out a bit and running it before wasn't too drastic but did make it a bit punchier.neonblack wrote:Ive found that buzzz before mini is better for synthy fuzzy stuff and accents the lows/low mids. mini into buzzz seems to add some punchy high mids and cuts through a bit better. i have the buzzz set with all switches to the right, gain/treble/starve all at around 3:00. i set the volume low-ish but as you turn it up it seems to get more squelchy and feedbacky in a cool way.
added bonus - it fucking slays with drum machines and just about any other sound source. the way the starve knob responds lets you dial out noise to taste and get punchy, responsive dirt and it just sounds brutal.
tom is the badass dude that runs a TAFM at the end of the chain to destroy worlds so i'm sure he'll find a kickass way to use it

Re: What is in the post? The thread of and for GAS!
I use it for bass and my favorite is all switches to the right, treble at 3, gain and starve at 10, and octave on, but the octave doesn't make much difference at that low voltage. Does seem to add some sub's though. That's my crushing synthy bass fuzz sound. For a tighter, more aggressive tone, I set it pretty much the same as yours, but maybe a little lower gain. Then I hit it with the octave and mini when I don't want my bass to sound like bass anymore. Really makes me want a bass vi to get really high and abrasive.backwardsvoyager wrote:yeah, i found that running the mini after seemed to smooth it out a bit and running it before wasn't too drastic but did make it a bit punchier.neonblack wrote:Ive found that buzzz before mini is better for synthy fuzzy stuff and accents the lows/low mids. mini into buzzz seems to add some punchy high mids and cuts through a bit better. Such an inspiring fuzz. I just need to copy and paste this into the review section on the ssbs site. Been meaning to write one.

this'll be the last for a while though.....
but yeah ill be sure to mess around with placement and such, that was just the first way i thought of running it
