Tubes are a different animal, but usually worth it, and yeah...fuzz thru tubes = win!
I know a lot of people do, but I dunno if I'd gig with a tube head...good ones aren't usually cheap (my Epi head is a fluke that way); they are usually at least slightly fragile; and I'm not such a rich man that I could afford to risk critically damaging a tube-head during load-in or -out, especially if it were that V8.
...tan lines...yum...

I'm not rich but all I have ever owned are tube amps. I hull them everywhere... I've even done gigs on a flatbed in people's backyards and in fields with them. I have had exactly five probs happen in the 18 years of using tube amps: 1. someone borrowed my old MM HD130 which had the original tubes from the 70's at the time a blew one of the 20+ year old tubes.. 2. my SVT was a floor model at the Berkley and then El Cerrito Ca GC for two years before I got it and one day it over heated, now that cost a lot to fix... 3. The wires on the on/off switch on a SVT are crimp on and on came lose once... I though my fucking was going to shit only to open it up to see the wires on the switch... those cheap fucking fuckers... 4. I forgot to unwrap the power cord from my mesa and turned it on while it was still stuffed in the amp, touching one of the power tubes... it died, I popped a new on in.. haven't had any other issues with that amp in 3-4 years

5. One of the caps in my sunn blew... amp was made in 67...
Tube amps > cars

Yeah...I just get overly paranoid at times, and the little Epi is actually my first tube head in general...not the last tho. Plus, I know a couple of folks who have had real issues with either Mesa or Ampeg heads, but then again these two are at times mouth-breathing animals in general, so maybe they're not the best examples to go by.

It's like anything else, if you missuse it... and there are a lemons out there

Like I said it's like cars

And they are in no way as tweaky as fucking double basses....

I know I'm lame and am embarrassed to admit this but...I have never played thru a tube bass head.

Nothing wrong with GK man. I love their Hi-Fi tone The RB series are probably my favorite SS amps.

Best SS amp I ever played through was actually made by Seymour duncan

Yep they made amps, my guitarist uses a all tube [KT88s!] power amp made by Seymour duncan with a Marshall JMP-1. But Lets face it all tube bass amps are not the most easy to find... sure you run into CLs here and there but due to fear [you wimps!] and price [

] SS WAYYYY out number them...

i have NOTHING against tubes, i think i just don't have enough experience with them to desire them. i love the Rusty Box through my SS power amp. and i'm ok with that. i spend too much fucking money on efx already. don't need another thing to obsess over. if i was doing butt loads of recordings or on pimp ass tours maybe i'd worry about that. 'm cool with my shits right now
am i the only one that gets images of Nazi's in a garage band during their off-Reich time every time i read SS? "Nein! NEIN!! DAS ES EINEN TUBEN DUMBKAF!!!"

Success. Just be careful with that input jack.

You're my kinda man, no bromo.
Also, I really don't have anything against SS amps, although I do prefer the tube sound. Play what you want, what you have access to, what you like, whatever. Except for Markbass or Eden, because they're ugly as sin.

Rusty Box all day forever and ever though. It's the exact sound I'm looking for in my head. I wasn't aware that Traynor just went into the future and stole my thoughts to make a bass amp.
