Did you try also adjusting the saddles?

Yeah dawg what do you take me for, an amateur?
(Actually I'm totally an amateur, I definitely took the neck off before adjusting the saddles)

But actually, yeah, I did.
They can't go down far enough, although way lowering them helped a little.
The neck had been shimmed by the previous owner.
But maybe not enough? :idk:

A definite possibility. When I had my orange Jazzmaster I had to fool around with it a bit with the original neck that I had on it to get the action down low enough.
If you're wanting a bit lower action I would try increasing the shim side closer to the neck pickup, even if it's just a piece of paper folded in half right down at the end of the pocket it might help

It's not even that I want to lower the action.
The guitar is just literally unplayable with the current action.
It looks like a cello or something with how far up they are.
Fretting anything besides the lower frets bends the string sooooo much.

I'll fool with it more tonight and see if I can get it up and running.

I know what you mean. I experienced that when I had the baritone neck on my Telemaster body. Good luck!

Like I said, if I can't get it to work, I always have the original neck to fall back on.
So that's comforting, haha.

I haven't yet.
I wanted to see if I could get this one to work before putting the standard, regular-scale neck back on.
