Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
First impressions of my first modules choices. Feel free to tell me im dumb or suggest something for me to try.
Telharmonic: love it more than I thought I would, and I haven't even dove deep into three shift register mode, which is why I wanted it in the first place. The three outputs are really well balanced. Mhmm.
Blinds: just as useful as I thought it would be, especially fine tuning modulation with the Make Noise combo knob philosophy. Not so easy as an audio vca.
Optomix: enjoying it thus far but its more quirky than I anticipated. Need another manual refresher.
Batumi: not 100% yet, but im probably going to trade it out for a Tempi. I thought the expert firmware would do some of that and more, and it does, but the UI for all the cool features is not my thing. & I think envelopes are more my bag.
Maths: haven't even scratched the surface but it's already provided a lot of functionality. Will need a lot of time to wrap my head around it comprehensively.
Mysteron: really interesting sounds, a lot I haven't discovered yet, but I'm not sure its best for a small system. Might replace it, but save it for the future.
Rosie: not as into the crossfader as I thought, but its cool. Still planning to replace it with a Ciao sometime in the future.

Try using a CV source on the control input and striking it at the same time...kbit wrote:Optomix: enjoying it thus far but its more quirky than I anticipated. Need another manual refresher.
You could consider a Pamela's Workout, too. Tons of useful features and it has a start/stop button, which is very, very useful. The new version is also a great modulations source...kbit wrote:Batumi: not 100% yet, but im probably going to trade it out for a Tempi. I think mystereon would go better with tempi or Pam over batumi too.

Pam's is pimmmmmmmmp.
also, RELEVANT. Danno is almost done with this for me -

it's a 1/4 to 1/8 inch converter box. so i can put this near my loot, run a snake to my K-Mix, have the inputs as sort of a breakout box. hoping it's cleaner and easier to remember what is going where, and it lets me put the K-Mix further away.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Yeah kbit! You gotta have a velvet touch to use Blinds as a unipolar VCA.
Not saying you need Batumi (I love Batumi!) but every system needs an LFO imo. Sine, square, triangle, ramp; these are almost like essential shapes at any speed. Maybe a simple VCO that can do LFO rates would be a good candidate, but if I could I'd advocate for both! ill admit I would have a hard time making the needed compromises on a small system so please take my advice with a grain of salt!

That's not far off. Modular synthesis actually has its roots in utilizing post war equipment. The whole of EMS was founded on repurposing old war equipment.drolo wrote:oh great ... one week into modular stuff and it's all I can think of wherever I go ...

Yes, but you need to use this module to concert it:$harkToootth wrote:drolo wrote: Also, does that phone have cv in?

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
cable question:
modular has 1/8 inch. My folktek triad has banana cables for clock in and such. Is there such thing as a 1/8 inch to banana cable and is that safe to use? Or do i need a converter box and if so do you know of any?

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
You'd have to make one, I dont think anyone sells it.
What you want if you have the HP is this, I believe:

Only ones i'm seeing still available are in the UK at $115 euro and not sure i want to use HP for that since it'll only be used when i use the Triad.D.o.S. wrote:You'd have to make one, I dont think anyone sells it.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
You need to make sure the ground is connected properly when interfacing banana and minijack. It's probably better to get something that was made just for that (usually with a separate connector for ground, one for the whole system). There used to be some euro modules that do this for example, that could be the most convenient for you.Ruiner wrote:cable question:
