On higher gain settings and especially with certain diodes this happens. When I hit the strings hard enough there is a big bassy boom on the attack. It kinda blows out the sound for a second before dropping down to the distorted tone. Like...BOOooowwwwwww. I dont really know how else to describe it. Anyway, I find this annoying and shitty sounding but I'm guessing this might not bug other people and might even be the thing they like about the pedal. Do you know what I'm talking about? Is this something you like or do you also think it sucks?
EDIT: some more internet searching has led me to the word "sag" being thrown around to describe this effect.
This is indeed Sag and this rules.
this description of your issues with the iron pig is what pushed me over the edge to finally get one.
I can buy yours

fuck man now I also want one hahaha

Been using my Rat (87-88 flat box) on bass with volume cranked, gain fairly low and filter at noon as a preamp/OD before fuzz and I have been LOVING it. I splurged on it last year and at bedroom levels I was just not happy with it but kept hoping I’d click. Toss it through a full stack and damn I am in heaven. I don’t think I’ve turned it off once since I joined my new band.
I just sold some gear and ordered myself a vintage Turbo Rat off Reverb. Won’t be here for a couple weeks but it’s beat to shit, has the spicy chip and looks killer. I may go from a Rat lover to a “guy with two rats on his board”.

Ibanez Black Noise is my favorite. I would love to have a clone with a metal enclosure and a decent switch.

Love that name. It's like they were before their time knowing noise artists would use their cheap plastic pedals
