INCOMING: McSpunkle Mini Gnome
I mentioned in my findings that I thought that a more toned back, simpler version of the Gnometron would work better for me. After talking with the man about a couple of things, I put down a deposit. It's gonna be sweet!

And the pickups do sound great, the best Fender HBs I've tried, coil tapping is excellent.
Yeah I've been digging D standard a lot, so this is good to know.
Fuck. The guitar is sorta expensive.

Maybe wait a bit and see if they don't come up used...
I paid $615 with my pal's GC discount, so it wasn't too bad. $799 is high though, wouldn't have dropped that much, I don't think.

I've been playing around with it for the last few hours, and initially I thought I'd bought an over-complicated piece of shit. I couldn't get it to bypass a signal even. After spending a good half hour reading the manual I was able to figure out what I'd done wrong. My suggestion for anyone trying it out, read the manual, if you don't you'll be confused and angry until you do. But beware, the manual has very strange spellings and word phrasing "Before making connection or powers on the padel..." but really it's no worse than any other manual.
I don't know what all the modes do yet. The delay's sound good enough, they have several redundant delay settings all labeled mono. In mono you can get up to 6 seconds of delay and in stereo you can only get up to 3 seconds. The analog sounds pretty ok, I wouldn't call it analog. It's really more just natural-sounding as opposed to analog, it's still very clean sounding but it has a little bit of filtering that make the repeats sound slightly more natural than a dd3's. The reverb on this is ridiculously lush and versatile, in terms of versatility the 'verb is probably slightly less versatile than the rrr but more versatile than the ghost echo.
I plan on making a demo comparing it to the most similar pedal I own, the ghost disaster. As far as comparisons there go, the GD has more natural sounding delay sounds and can self oscillate (in the "analog" mode the muza kinda does, but not really...it's a little strange). As far as creating the illusion of space goes, the muza creates cold, dead, god-I've-gone-passed-the-oort-cloud space; the ghost disaster is more...ghostly

the space felt like I was bouncing off landscapes or down a demon-possessed mine-shaft. One thing the muza gets big points in my book for is for getting 100% wet signal on both the delay and reverb, I like being able to get completely lost in the spaced-out swash of swimming ocean noise.
The muza is capable of doing milder delay stuff, but it really is just so easy to turn it on and get huge, endless reverberationey delay. Instead of having to coax crazy stuff out of a delay, you have to try to coax normal stuff out of the muza. It's a nice change, I'm going to go try it at the beginning of the chain, something tells me this would be perfect for that.

Take comfort in it costing € 749 for us eurotrash this side of the pond, which works out to over $ 1k. At least that helps to keep the GAS somewhat in check.

Yeah, that is a fucked up price. But usually importing shit sums up to about the same price in euro as in Dollars so I guess that is what you have to pay until noone buys them and the stores start giving discounts to move those things. I would freak out to have one, I think they are excellent, and that was even before I found out they split their coils. But at least over here music stores make their money off lawyers and dentists and metalheads but this guitar doesn't cater to that clientele. But the bigger ones will probably stock one just in case and then end up selling it for the cheaps just to get it out of the way. How I got my new Ampeg for half the price it originally cost. Patience is the key but I'm pretty sure it will work.

I was thinking of getting the Doomidrive then probably either the Fuzzfight or Harakiri in the future. Then for recording songs I want to do one channel ECT and other Doomidrive or other CF stuff. Then adding in my Noise Invaders, Phantom Ring and Mini Ark for chaos when appropriate

I got a 10% coupon for the Doomidrive too
On to the Drum Software GAS!
I just traded a Doomidrive here a couple weeks ago. I only had it for about a month but I really liked it.
I traded it because it didn't make my band board and it's too pricey for me to keep it and not use it very often.
If you like overdrive it's great, I'm just more of a fuzz guy.
As far as the point to point vs. not point to point, I don't think the sound differs at all.
I traded it to another ILF'ER so I could check and see if he's still into it or not, if you want?
That'd be great since I'm more of a fuzz guy as well and I can't really afford to flip a lot of pedals
I still need to plan out what I need and see how it fits into my sound on top of all the other fuzz. From what I've heard though it does a great dark fuzz tone as well as great overdrive and even acts as kind of a treble booster with the bottom rolled off. Not a ton of samples out there though.
I also saw you traded it for a Mountainking pedal a while back and were impressed with it, better than the Doomidrive or did it just fill a different role in your sound?
PM'd
I dunno, but maybe you want to consider this..?

I was going to put an offer out on forums and stuff to trade my tele for it, but who knows if that will yield any results. I'll probably end up waiting a while.

Yeah importing versus local is generally a wash with added shipping and taxes. My hope is that these guitars turn out to be a bust so that I can score one for half price at those year end blow out sales. There's a real possibility of that happening considering how conservative our market seems to be. Aside from the metal and budget guitars it's generally only about strats, teles and LPs. Besides, my baritone GAS is stronger.

Very true. I think Fender produced a shit ton of Pawn Shop guitars too as they're stocked everywhere from small local stores to huge online retailers. At the $799 price point, there may be quite a few around at the end of the year.

Cool, thanks for the write-up! I saw that pic and instantly GASed for it -- from that description it's exactly what I've been wanting for a long time now.
Looks like it's made by a mysterious Hong Kong company. Do you notice any issues with the bypass (I'm guessing it's buffered)? Going to pick one up as soon as I have the moneys anyway though...
I guess the redundant mono delays are just there for fine tuning the delay time...but...whatever

What are some good 8 string guitars? Looking at the RGA8, but I don't know of many others. Not crazy about the Schecter 8 strings.
Looking to spend under $1000.
