All I can say is that forgiveness is not something many people can do. I don't know why, and it saddens me. I have nothing else to add here.

Sure, we could all be more forgiving.

But I don’t easily forgive people who cheer on the murder of others.

And even if I did forgive them, why would I be obligated to like them, have warm feelings toward them, or entrust my money to them?

That cousin who pawned the silverware and your guitar, even after rehab are you gonna give him a key and leave valuables lying around? I mean, you forgive him, don’t you? (And, yes, I get it’s the disease that’s the huge driver in that instance. The point is the reasonable limit of forgiveness.)

If the aforementioned “skeevy church” issues are true he certainly hasn’t been straightforward with it. Why would I “forgive” when clearly he’s not taking any accountability?

Also people can forgive but (like that age old saying goes) they don’t have to forget....

Forgiveness is not a gift you give another, it’s a means of setting yourself free. You don’t have to do anything, I’m merely saying what I believe to be helpful to me. I’ve allowed myself to forgive horrible people and it’s freeing because resentment only causes me pain. That other person rarely (if ever) gets affected by it.

Whilst I missed all the original drama of the copying and all the mud slinging (and the deeper you dig, the more the facts get muddied up by opinions), I'm curious if all of the folks into the JHS cancel culture (there's another term that came out of nowhere and is now everywhere) are that way across the board? Like if you find out a friend posted a racist tweet 15 years ago, do you cut them out of your life?
I'm not hanging out with reactionary fundie bigots. Never have. Not too concerned with the possibility of finding out one of my friends is secretly a bigot.

Anyone who willingly attends a bigoted church or group is included in group blame, FWIW - obviously they're cool with the bigotry.
Have you destroyed all your Kevin Spacey movies or <insert disgraced celeb and their art>?
This one I struggle with to a certain extent: Tupac went to prison for sexual assault. Bowie and Iggy both molested at least one tween (and probably more). Etc., etc. etc. (That Iggy and Bowie were out of their minds on drugs at the time isn't an excuse.)

However... new art is made all the time. Great art by people who haven't and aren't doing horrible things. Much as I love "Heroes," cancelling Bowie isn't the end of the world.

Plus last time I checked - David Bowie is dead! John Lennon was a piece of shit who beat his wives, Led Zepplin were absolute scumfucks, etc etc. What’s the point of being “that guy” who reminds people John Lennon was a wifebeater (especially when you can be the guy who reminds people his wife Yoko Ono made better art and music than he did)? He’s dead - last time I checked.

But going back to movies - is everything Harvey Weinstein has been involved with irreparably tainted? I mean you can fucking cancel Aziz Ansari and that fucking loser comedian who jerked odd in front of women in a heartbeat - those people don’t matter and they weren’t funny.

These are challenging questions and I don’t have any answers.

Apart from the aforementioned, I detest JHScott for his "record time" segment at the end of each episode. It just cements the image of this guy who tries so hard to align his brand with non-offensive indie rock (how dare you drag Elliott Smith into this!) along with the obvious guitar heroes and like.. Norah Jones. Also without fail, if he does feature a good band/artist, he consistently picks the later, most produced/commercial breakthrough albums. I guess that just confirms his middle-of-the-road tastes, but damn just stay away from music reviewing. Just keep making meh pedals, if I want reviews I'll watch Anthony Fantano, who is actually good at that and doesn't reduce it to a coy exercise in "look how cool I am even though I'm a Christian businessman".

He gave an interview years ago, where he said he hated music before Pearl Jam. He said when he was a kid and music came on the radio, he'd run out of the room. Imagine having a neurological aversion to music, but then finding salvation in Pearl Jam. That's your holy grail? As a teenager of the 90s, that told me right away that I could not relate to this marshmallow at all.

Josh Scott is like a human baloney sandwich---cold pink meat, starchy white bread, and vinegar-heavy mayonnaise.
