Been part of the "Scene" since the 90s and have seen most of the east coast classic bands aka Saetia, Off Minot, Orchid, Ampere, Etc... Most bands including the early emo stuff like Indian Summer all used JCM800s. Most bands in the early to mid 2000s still used JCM800s and the derivatives like Sovteks and Laneys. Newer bands are starting to kinda branch off and use stuff like Ampegs (Loma Prieta), Bandmaster (Beau Navire), but then most of the bands play whatever they can get for cheap.... It still is punk rock after all. I was playing out of a AC30 and recorded with that. Now I have a Sovtek because I was missing that Marshal "Clean" sound that bands like Off Minor had.

This is my band... Our recordings arent the best representation of us (They were recorded on a broken tascam 4-track with one mic) but Ive been around long enough to see what most bands use.

For guitar in the 90s you would mostly see SGs and then Cheap at the time Fenders aka Telecaster Customs and Mustangs.

I have to admit that this thread sparked serious interest in the JCM800 for me.

There's a reason the classics are the classics. Also worth checking out the MIG100, IMO, even if they're overpriced nowadays.

I kinda outgrew the Marshall JCM series when I got into different kinds of music. For me the 800 is still THE amp for 90s emo/screamo/hardcore, but I find it hard to get along with for anything else. As far as Marshalls go, these days I prefer a loud clean-ish plexi type amp with fuzz pedals over a the super compressed tight crunch of the jcm 800.

Either way, prices for jcm 800s, JMP MKII's, and similar heads (laney and sovtek come to mind) have skyrocketed, to the point where even a meh alternative (jetcityblackstarorange) might make a better bang for the buck imo :idk:

kinda hoped Woolworm had come back :/ (they liked screamo... right?)

Been meaning to get back into some screamo stuff tho. Got city of caterpillar on my phone waiting. I've been to some hardcore gigs this for the first time after like a 6 year hiatus and found lots of joy revisiting my old hardcore favourites and new bands. Lots of them being screamo-aligned

For whatever reason I occasionally fall into this thread and read it all through.

Great times for screamo lately. Got to see City of Caterpillar twice, as well as Saetia and Pageninetynine. I missed Portraits of Past (though I did catch them on their last reunion). Plus plenty of other great bands the last few years (Crowning, Heavenly Blue, Saton).

Screamo is good, fam. And yeah, also miss old Loma.

Yall should fuck with the latest Inosuke record, which scratches the itch between screamo and some fuzzy post metal.
