A) Active basses are yucky because it's new and new things are scary

B) He's a sexy manmade meatsack. That keeps prices low (or so I've heard).

When you say "new" you mean the last several decades, which obviously would not mean new. LOFUCKINGL

MOOOOOOOOG.

lol. i WISH my admittedly undeniable sexy stacks of chunky beef got me a discount.

i dunno? is that cheap? i paid $2500 ish for them to build my first one. it's beem a few years, so price bumps, and i'm trying to get a custom color paint job, thinking about the Illuminay inlays.... so it'll be in the $2800-$3000 range i think.

OHHHHH you said AB TWO. i have, and want another, AB ONE.

i........ i don't like active. the one is perfect for me.

My AB1 was push/pull active passive. So they still make them. :)

Yea I don't see enough of a difference between AB1 and AB2 for justify the huge jump, although the 2's tend to be a bit prettier? I'm sure you can option the shit out of the 1 as well.

Still a great price for a custom. I mean generally speaking Dingwall customs run about 5-6k. So I think that's great.

Didn't know we were in history class?

So the fist passive bass was made in what the 1930's? The first active bass was made in the 70's.

So there is a 40 year difference. Which is not new in any terms. History or not. They have been made for 45 fucking years and bassists that are idiots have been bitching about it probably for the same amount of time.

All I need i my P Bass and Ampeg. Yada yada yada. My God it gets old.

If you want to sound like dried up butt, that's your prerogative, but I get so annoyed and just plain tired of how closed minded bassist are.

i don't think it's bassists though? i think it's genre of music playing?

i'm sure guitarists and drummers have some strict Use This Or It's Not REAL Jazz/Dad Rock/Whatever too?

and jia. $3000 for a bass i know i'm going to love that Sheldon lets me make some choices on and is built to order so it's MINE?

yeah. i'm okay with that.

Yea you're probably right. It just fucks with me when I'm on ILF and hear a Talkbass mentality. It definitely is genre dependent or based on your age. You know, if you're a geezer or not. Or if you were raised by geezers. OLD geezers. :)

I played guitar for awhile and don't remember ever having any active guitars? Weird.

I HATE passive basses though. hahaha. I need that punch you in the dick sound.

i have only had one active bass, it was finicky with effects which annoyed me, but mainly i just don't want to worry about a battery. i got too much shit to setup and deal with as is. that. is my tipping point.

and the passive ABI is just.... it for me. never even been curious about other basses.

but i'm an Instrument Idiot. my bass guy was asking me what woods were in mines and i was I DUNNO. WOOD?

i know nothing about what goes into those stringed buggers.

I mean honestly Ben your thought process is the best to have though. Too much thought is put into stupid crap like the woods. I mean seriously, who cares? It's been proven time and time again that the difference are so subtle that it's not distinguishable by the human ear. But you bet your ass there's a guy that own 9 instruments with different woods that will tell you different. COUGH Excane COUGH lol. hahahaha

I don't know the woods on my instrument either? Except the neck in wenge which is pronounced when gay. Which is funny.

Sheldon told me he fucking hates working with when gay but people love it so much. He said it's shit and doesn't make the build process easy.
