Check your gate length/duty cycle maybe? (I don't have a beatstep anymore).

I found the regular beatstep hard/not fun for melodic/bassline stuff in general. The sq-1 was easier and quicker for me I think and easier to limit ranges. Never got the beatstep to really do much midi-wise the way I wanted either. Keystep was much easier.

I would probably buy a delptronics triggerman for lots of drum stuff. (At least that's what I think is kinda useful).

Rings will trigger only with every new pitch unless you also patch a trigger into In jack. So for getting the same note to trigger twice patch pitch into v/oct and a trigger into in. If you use only the In or V/oct input Rings will only trigger when voltage changes, which is also why you want a trigger jbstead of a gate on the In jack since otherwise Rings will double tap when the voltage goes low on the gate.

Hadn't heard of this one before, has a pretty interesting feature set.

 the Trogotronic descriptions of their modules.

"m/669 shamelessly stuffs 14hp of Euro-Format ALL-ANALOG SMUT to the current crowd of frigid digital rack-tangles. From throbbing heavy-water reactor drone to vigorous flash-bang action (and exotic analog arthropod maneuvers everywhere in-between) this rack-jacker begs for Voltage Control in no less than 8 input holes—7 which stimulate velvety Vactrols. Stick this cherry-red tinnitus-tool in your lily-white rack and your friends with good taste will NEVER come back."

I'm looking to take the plunge into modular as my wrist pains continue to get worse. I'm looking at an 0-Coast and Clouds in a 3u case with some empty room to get started. I'm looking at a Tip Top Happy Ending kit, but I'm pretty clueless about those. I'd love to get a case I can close up so my kids don't wreck anything... I have a mescaline coming as well at some point, but I'd love to get started before that gets here. Anyone work with these? Obviously that's a painfully tiny setup, but I've never played anything like this so I want to make it as intuitive and gradual as possible...
I'll be mostly making ambient stuff, maybe pick up a keystep so I can play with other people more effectively.

So what do i need? will that be fun with just the 0 coast and clouds? Then I'll keep fiddling and get things as I even know what I'm missing for what I want to do.

Edit: upon more googling I'm discovering that the 0-Coast isn't rack mountable, so it'll be standing on it's own. Seems really silly to get a case and power just for Clouds. What else am I missing? Muffwigglers seems to say a few VCA's, I assume for more control over things?

Someone walk me through this to make sure I'm approaching it correctly. Say I'm starting with an oscillator (Braids in this case) and I want to take that oscillator and turn it into a self playing pattern of notes (done with Varigate 8 and Voltage Block in this case). What am I hooking up to and in what order before getting to the Sequencer?

CV out of the Malekko to v/Oct in on braids. Trigger/gate out of Malekko to envelope (or directly to a low pass gate for bongozz). Envelope out to vca CV in. Braids out to vca in. Vca out to mix.

Use another gate/trigger (or the one triggering the envelope...you gots 8, use em) output to run the modulation/Exciter on the trigger input of the braids.

Is that what you're asking?

Varigate 8 and voltage blocks has some over lap. Use the voltage blocks more for changing timbre and and stuff on braids in sync with the varigate. Use the clock and gates on varigate to run the voltage blocks. (Gate out (or clock out) clock in or reset).

I've never used either sequencer, but that's the basic idea (and you can complicate it from there. Comparators/logic, vcaing/ring modding clocks, voltage adders and all that)
