I hadn't been on Talkbutt for a long time, so the other day I went there just for fun.
I found a thread about "weird music" and I thought "neat!" so I clicked on it. Within 3 posts, someone had argued that "weird" was always an insult, and as such, the original poster clearly had a nefarious agenda at hand. The rest of the thread quickly devolved into arguing that the OP's list of "weird" bands were in fact "mainstream" and therefore he became suspect from that particular angle as well. Very little discussion about "weird music" was to be had therein, although there were a scant few Zappa references, minor glimmers of hope in an otherwise steaming pile of nothingness.
Either way, within 5 minutes, I could only conclude the following:
Talkbass posts = Youtube comments

So my Mesa Bass Prodigy took a shit on me. THANK GOD it's under warranty. It's been down for 2 week almost and the shop said they'll have it fix the soonest 3-4 weeks!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
So I had to go buy a back up amp because I cannot go that long without playing. I just can't. I have a little Acoustic B10, but it's breaks up so bad when I play it.
So I bought a Hartke lh1000 that was basically new for around 400. It was a little on the expensive side for a semi used one, but I just wanted something on hand. I have to say I am super impressed with it! I can't believe how much thump this thing has for a head that has so little options on it. It's a 1000 watt, so it gets super fucking loud.
I almost could see myself just using this head, but I miss my Mesa already.

As a diehard Mesa Tube Fan® you will probably have to get used to them crapping out sometimes. Don't leave home without a backup amp, I carry one of those pedal-sized GK things all the time, just in case. Granted, I've never had my 400 or 400+ die on a gig, as each one has given plenty of warning before shitting the bed. But still, it happens.
That being said, I've killed all kinds of amps. Personal growth through wanton gear destruction!

Yeah I've never had my 400+ fail me on a gig in 6ish years of owning it, I've had one tube fail and that was my fault for having the power cord touching one of the power tubes while it was on, popped in another tube and and no issues, I feel it is a much more stable and rugged amp than a SVT CL which did crap out on me a few times. The new ones look cool and I bet they sound awesome but I would probably pick up another 400+ if I needed another gigging amp

I find it funny that people slag on Behringer/Bugera as being unreliable pieces of shit. I've been running my Bugera (all-tube) at almost full blast behind a power soak for 3 years for a shitload of gigs and practices, and never had a problem, and yet these 2 grand Mesas are torpedoing and no one says a negative word about Mesa's reliability.

I'm right there with you buddy! I don't get it either! I am super frustrated with Mesa right now. The Eden amp I had got quite a beating and it never skipped a beat. The Mesa is not even 6 months old and brand fucking new. There is NO reason it should have had a power tube failure or resistors blow out (which is what happened). Bizarre.
Mesa's sound great but this certainly has left a sour taste in my mouth. For as expensive as that stuff is I ought to be covered on the damn tubes for a year at least IMO. I was 12 days away from having to pay for it myself. Lucky me.
I'm debating whether or not I'm going to sell it when it gets back. I love the sound but I don't want to mess with something like this again for a long time. I mean there's amps out there like you stated, with tubes that are old and they last forever. SO hopefully this will be the solution and hopefully I'll just fall in love with it again.
We'll see.

In my vast life experience with all things music gear, cars, and people, everything will prove itself unreliable if given enough time.
