i'm stoopid i think. i've always hated the way Ric's look. i have fond associations with them in anime, but i think the did that shape just to be way different than a guitar shape. same way shitty'ly drawn anime will go with the 98 different hair colored grrLs so you can actually tell them apart.

anybody on here used a Mono case? i just got one, love it, but the site says it has ABS plates in it. if mine doea, they're softer than my dick after accidentally renting Realist Lesbian Porn at Good Vibrations.

gah. no. fucking. THANK YOU.

Yeah Anti-lock Brake Systems going mushy is a raw deal.

<rimshot>

Is it not doing it for ya there good sir? (The case; not the bull dyke pron) I think ABS can be hard or Image

I have a shitty plywood case that I've had with my 'Wick since I bought in 11 years ago. I CANNOT fucking believe it's not disintegrated into a mound of sawdust and tolex bits as a result of all the hell it's gone through. I hate the thing though. Crowd out a stage (or lack thereof) and try to figure out where to put a non collapsible case.

PS: Rics are a bit of an acquired taste. At first I hated them,...then I liked em,...then I hated em,...then I liked em.

I honestly have no idea how they sound clean though. Seems that any bassist I've ever heard use them have played them through a mountain of DistoFuzz.

I want this:

Mono Cas IS mono.

thing is the shit. it's sturdy enough i could totally chuck it in the trailer with no worries. i dunno if i'd fly it unless it was carry on tho.
i have 2 hard cases, neither of then fit the only bass i own i actually like to ay, and they DO take up so much room onstage.

FUCK HARD CASES.

if i was flying i'd probably get a gun case for my bass and custom cut the foam. 'till the , Mono rokks my ballz off.

eh. it's way more silly than nasty. you know how you do kinda OK signs with your hands then rotate them so you have Hand Glasses? you have to be doing stuff with a lady (or a fella... i don't judge) where they can't see you, do the Hand Glasses so it kinda looks like Batman's mask, get her/his attention so they look at you, and in your best guttural Christian Bale going too far voice grunt out, "I'M BATMAN.".

hillarity ensues.

See, I yearn for a ric because I love their clean tone. Just listen the bass tone on the first two Tool discs. That's a clean ric, and it sounds monstrous. Also, Chris Squire's tone was fucking epic, and it was only a little dirty, definitely not fuzzy.

But I'll never be able to afford one. I can't ever envision a time in my life where I'll be able to drop over a grand on any piece of gear. Unless I literally sell off ALL of my pedals to fund one.

Here's that early Tool tone I was talking about. When the bass kicks in at 0:20, it is just fucking brutal:

I guess I lied about never hearing a clean tone. I think I'm trying to distance myself from the Flavor 'o' the month appeal they had for while. I've have Undertow and Opiate and listen to them regularly. I don't really pay a whole lot of attention to the gear famous people use. Wasn't Paul using a 400+ back then? Seems like a lot of his grind was a combo of the Ricky and a sweaty tube amp.

I actually almost bought a Ricky locally. An old lady was selling her deceased husband's 70's 4001 (a white one) for like $150 (Steal of the fucking century). That shit went quick!!!! I emailed her and never got a response so I'm assuming that someone was on it like stink on a dog's ass.

Speaking of Paul d'Amour's rig,...I'd love to have me an old Ovation Magnum....

Image

There is just something appealing about these funky old basses. I know Paul had and used one for a bit; or at least I think he did.

When I bought my Sunn from some stoner dude in Ft. Worth, he let me test it out on this Ovation Magnum he had. I had brought a bass, but i wasn't gonna pass up the opportunity to play a Magnum. Seriously, the heaviest bass I've ever experienced, and I've played a lot. It was even heavier than the Dan Armstrong bass I played one time. Then, he informed me it was owned by the bass player from REO Speeddealer, and he just left it in the stoner dude's van. That was pretty cool because I listened to them a lot when I was in like tenth grade. So, yeah. Not sure exactly where that story goes.
