So I have uncontrollable gas for a fretless bass right now. AGAIN. It comes at the worst time too as I just lost one of my three day a week clients (my fault too!!) and am down 600 bucks a month now. :( Sucks ass! To top that off I am out 3880 for this Talkbass group buy and I'm praying that no one backs out as I would literally be fucked. Like bad fucked.

UGH. I love my MTD and am NOT selling. I just want a good fretless that won't break the bank. Lately I've been digging on cheaper basses. I think I'm starting to appreciate shit more than I used to. Sure I'd love a fretless Roscoe or MTD or fuck a Mike Lull, but I'd take anything that sounds decent and stays in tune.

Any suggestions?

Ibanez Gary Willis sig seem to go for pretty cheap used.

I just dropped $380 on my $700 SVT-CL.

Fried the power tubes some how (bad biasing is my best guess).

Took it to a really amazing tech. He was able to source a sextet of plate and resistance matched KT88s (normally use 6550s but the two tubes are near as makes no difference the same) for the bad boy and I had some good 12AU7s I yoinked out of a derelict Hammond A100. Those went into the bias circuit and I also had some Mullard or Dutch Phillips 12AX7s from the same Hammond that he put in the preamp section.

Dialed and biased.

Sounds fucking killer now. I find myself running bass through a single 18 sub and two EAW 2x12 subs. Sounds massive. The 18 is a bit flubbery though.

Hopefully I'll be good on tubes for a while.

+1 The VM and CV series are nice fucking basses, I think they're better than MIM Fender at this point.

Checked out both of those basses and they are nice! Are there any unlined ones though? Maybe I'm just bad at google searching. I can't stand lines on a fretless. It just doesn't make sense.

Also, I bought a pedal from a guy 10 days ago (on Talkbass), he has perfect feedback of like 32 transactions, said he'd ship it on Saturday last week, no pedal. He won't answer my pm's and he's been online and I contacted him via facebook and he won't respond to that. How much longer you guys figure I should give the guy before opening a dispute. I'd hate to do it and it arrives in the mail today. I want to leave him negative feedback for lack of communication, but am afraid he'll leave me negative feedback. Fucking Talkbass needs to fix that shit. As a buyer I shouldn't get negative feedback.

Unfortunately, Fender doesn't make ANY unlined fretless unless you splurge for custom shop shit. It's lame, I agree. What I've heard a lot of people do is get a Warmoth or Mighty Mite unlined neck and swap it on.

Not cheap, but not custom shop level either...

I've actually been looking at these and Stingrays. Would be awesome to have a Stingray fretless.

UGH! Choices, choices. What I'd LOVE is a vintage fretless. I should have never give up that Fbass. God damn it.

STINGRAY FTMFW!

I've had mine a few years now. Bought it used for 1200, but it was a HH version, with a John East ore, and hipshot extender already installed. A regular used one would be a bit cheaper. It's got big aggressive balls for tone, and it plays fantastically.

So naturally because you've owned it for years, you'd sell it to me for 600 right? :)

With the purchase of a new car for me as well, you can have it for 599 :)

How about I just give you rides wherever you want to go? Sound fair? :)

This is my Stingray and I made it passive because I don't like batteries. No click, all thick! Tuned to C# because my doom/pop band loves it.

:joy: to all. I bought a house. :omg: Hopefully won't have to sell all my fuzzzzzzz to keep it fully operational, much like the Death Star of yore.
