I have gotten super boring and listen to choral music on public radio a lot. this one gets pretty intense in the final movement, reminds me of swans ca. the seer
imagine finding out your son is your daughter & she's into noise music

Kathryn Joseph’s new album, “WE WERE MADE PREY.” I had picked up on her around her second album. Her third had been stretching past piano into EP sounds. But this one has dark, gritty synth sounds that are still her. Feels like one of those albums you keep on repeat for a month, at least for me.

i've already talked about the most recent DIIV album, but for some reason i never bothered to look up the lyrics for the songs other than my two favorites (no lyric sheet with CD). i put the disc on in the car this morning and decided to look up the lyrics to the first song, "In Amber," and fuck me if he didn't absolutely nail the way it feels to have to live in this moment.

I can't look away
In anger
I want to disappear
In amber
Swallowed by a fantasy
To be the end of history
An anchor
You want to disappear?
Our prayers are answered

My eyes have seen it all
Nothing's forgotten
I find it's hard to
Imagine a shock
The rotating villains
Profit off suffering
A doomsday machine glitch
Is our new god
The banality of evil
Poisons the garden
Bearing false witness
Sparing no cost
Remember they told us
The tide lifts our boats up
That ocean is dried out
And I can't look away*

I can't look away
I can't look away
In anger
I want to disappear
I want to disappear
I want to disappear
I want to disappear
I want to disappear

*this was the point where i started crying.

i was poking around on YouTube for recordings from the Autechre tour because i see them in Philadelphia tomorrow night, and somehow came across this: a 1950s computer programmed with punch tapes using a circuit with 4 light bulbs that generate square waves to play “Olson” by Boards of Canada through an equally ancient Heathkit amp. it’s so peculiar i had to share. n.b. the first part of the vid is a minute or 2 of the elder boffin programming the machine. best comment: “this is what 12 years without an album does to a fan base.”

The recording of the Philly Autechre show finally got uploaded to YouTube. it's the only music i can listen to without ever getting bored, even a little.

i've been branching out to other shows from the Autechre tour, and they're all amazing and all almost completely different. there's one chord motif that recurs in Philly and DC, but other than that...just search "Autechre" on YouTube and sort by recent.

I had gotten away from it for a while, but I have been listening to stuff on radio garden a lot. The highlighted one in Casablanca is especially good.

Shazam doesn't always work to identify the music, but here's one that it got, the extreme autotune on the vocals with the traditional music cracks me up, love it.

they’re not here yet, but i have two very different live albums coming in. one is a solo Neil Young concert from 2/1/71 which was my favorite bootleg LP back in the 70s, and the other a document of DIIV’s “Frog In Boiling Water”tour entitled Boiled Alive which includes the bizarre and hilarious between-songs interludes with AI-voiced smarmy New Age commentary and tongue-in-cheek offers for the band to endorse anything for payment. it’ll lose something without the visuals, and i’ll probably have a fast hand on the SKIP button when listening, but they were so good on that tour that after seeing them in Richmond i went to Philly a few days later to see them again.
