one more from the Ride album...this is my favorite, a kinetic screed of disillusion and retribution that, as Durruti said, is not in the least afraid of ruins:

into the no mind of momentary liberation
broken by these pills prescriptions for relief
broken by this country we get smashed into pieces
better take these pills cause everything’s for sale.
if this is being
it’s no Creation that I know
if this is fear
it’s time to go,
to make your bones
over the edge we go
this pressure, this pressure
is this the life I own?

we burn Monaco
if they go
we burn Monaco
if they go
we burn Monaco
if they go
we burn Monaco

is this the life I own?
this is the life I own

I just got home from seeing Negativland, film screening, followed by Q&A and then 45 or so minute performance.

Doing a dive on Junip. I know I’ve bumped into them incidentally and liked, but they’re damn subtle. Take soft folkish acoustic-guitar heavy songwriting that makes me think Beta Band or Nick Drake and layer on interesting synth and fuzz layers that manage to be unobtrusive. (Lands a bit different, but puts me in mind of how earthy and natural the synths sound on Juana Molina’s later albums.)

Going in rotation for driving and late nights.

Hm, how do we embed youtube links now? The new "media" tag button doesn't seem to work.

Anyway, this made me think of Seance, in case you're scrolling this thread!
solo (mostly ambient): https://heraclitusakimbo.bandcamp.com/
duo (electroacoustic vibration exploration): https://wenderlypark.bandcamp.com/
trio (tapes/voice/clarinet/synth/poems): https://ourwaytofall.bandcamp.com/
band (spontaneous kosmische): https://stargoon.bandcamp.com/

I also help co-ordinate Okta, ILF's collaborative community ambient project: https://okta.bandcamp.com

Bombici, Live at Studio B.

The description is that they play stuff based on Balkan wedding music, but with modern electronic touches, though I have seen them play entirely acoustic sets.

This was filmed/recorded at WQED, the Pittsburgh public PBS station that was, of course, where Mr Rogers' Neighborhood was made.

This just came out and sounds great. One of the sax players occasionally sits in with my band, and I was in the audience for this:

Bit of history on this one: it's a famously unreleased dubplate that was secretly added to a 12" repress of another Mala classic (Changes) that I'd pre-ordered before the b-side was known - they told labels/distros/people that it was a single-sided white label 12". Great for me, since I don't have a copy of Changes anyway, but putting Jah Power Dub on the B-side is an absolute chef's kiss moment.

Not only is it fantastic that this is out for the people - so you don't need to rely on a handful of producers deciding to play this particular 20-year-old plate (especially as no one who would have a copy gigs with vinyl anymore, really) or settling for a shitty youtube rip with an MC over the top, but I also have a copy that I didn't have to sell a limb for! Definitely an unexpected highlight to 2024, which was a pretty good year for me.
