Holy heck, I cannot believe this is 20 years old. Such a huge deal at the time!

There are only two days of the year where I feel compelled to listen to a specific song where the title relates to the date. One of them is "The 23rd of September" by the Vulgar Boatmen, and this is the other one, which I'm sure isn't actually date-inspired at all, but so what?

Their collaboration from last year, The Cleansing, is very enjoyable as well! Sometimes calm, sometimes screechy sax with bass blurbs. Not as epic as Painkiller but nothing much is :)

I've just been catching up on the Zorn's 50th Birthday series (ten years later!), as well as the Masada LPs, so it was a nice treat to see them both in this environment! I'm starting to think Hockey & the early game records are even sharper now, but I never went all-in with Painkiller TBH. It's pretty humbling to remember that Zorn started playing at 11, so that's almost bean 60 years worth of hijinks to pour over, let alone everything he's released on Tzadik.
