Speaking are great if you like reliability, secure connections and a smaller chance of electrocuting yourself.

Only really need them over 300 watts though.

I have one head with speakon, one without. One cab with speakon, and two without. I just keep an adapter with each head depending on what combination I end up bringing. It was initially annoying to have to buy $20 of extra cable connectors, but now I'm prepared for the annoying gigs where I can't use my own cab.

I really hate having a cable that cannot be easily repaired and is so expensive. Any person with a soldering iron can fix a 1/4" speaker cable and just about any venue will have a spare.
The only time I've seen the advantage of a speakon is on a PA sub, where they're blasting those things at levels high enough to move the plug out of the jack. But I've seen more than a couple of those plugs go bad and there was no way to fix them in time for the gig. And the locking/twisting mechanism can be a bitch to use on some plugs.


Partially related to this topic, I just ordered an Ampeg Portaflex 115. Pretty excited to have a cab without a tweeter so my fuzz/drive doesn't sound like garbage anymore.

huh. i like the Speakon's because they stay solid in my power amp, never had a problem with them.

but my amp and cabs can both send/take 1/4's as well. so..... yeah.

Got my Mesa head yesterday. It's kind of small but MY GOD IT'S LOUD AS FUCK! Huge low end. HUGE. My cabs hate it though. So it's a good call that I'm getting a few Mesa cabs. Makes my cabs hiss a bit when I use my B7K. Weird. Fucking everything sounds so big through it. Plus the distortion that head can do with the gain up. My God. Can't wait to get those Mesa cabs.

Side note. So I recently sold my Fbass and that's how I have money for this stuff. Dude gets it and says there's a twist in the neck. Fuck. I had no idea as I'm not really tech savvy but I did pay for a set up for the damn thing and that was never mentioned. So now he's looking at a fix for it, but it's going to cost me at least 300-400 bucks. I have no choice either because he could dispute me with paypal. Fucking sucks. I feel bad because I didn't ever notice, but he said it's very slight, but he wants it functioning properly. Ugh. Sucks.

It actually worked out!! Thank GOD! The guy took it to a tech and it turned out to be a maxed out truss rod and only cost 50 bucks to fix. HUGE load off my mind.

Now I've got a date with two Mesa cabs on Friday. Muahahahahahahahaha

Also, seriously. Mesa. I cannot believe how much this thing kicks my nuts in. Why the fuck are more people not using them. The Prodigy is sooooooo loud and insane and clean and sexy and I have a huge boner.
