I've yet to try any of those "Seven Sisters" pedals, didn't realize they were priced so low.

I was really tempted to sell of a ton of shit today and buy a bunch of drone boxes. Getting tired of the thoughts of making music with others and nothing panning out, just wanna get lost in my own head space. But part of me feels I'd really regret the decision. Ugh.

you probably already know this, but in case....

the grendel drone commander is dope.

the skychord sleepdrone 5 is pretty well thought out. it has individual outputs for each oscillator in case you want to do what ever you can think of with that sort of flexibility, but putting different effects pedals on each oscillator for example really knocks the potential of this pedal out of the park. but the grendel is really really nice.

Yeah both of those have had my eye for a while.
Can you turn the rhythmic pulse of the Drone Commander off?

Ideally I'd like to have a setup of like 3-5 different boxes: Drone Commander, Sleep Drone, the as-of-yet-designed Sonic Crayon drone box, Weird Sound Generator, A DRONE LAB IF I COULD EVER FIND ONE. But that'd take a long time and a lot of money. Part of me wants to sell off the gear I haven't been using to fund some of this, but I worry about missing it.

96% certain no.

"with a total of 9 knobs, the drone commander offers two manually-tuned oscillators and two lfos, plus an unusually colorful and nasty filter. lfo1 is an analog variable-shape oscillator, and lfo2 is a pulse waveform that auto-synchronizes to lfo1 at a ratio of 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x. both lfos can be routed to the filter for rhythmic patterns. a line-level output jack is provided for connection to amplifiers or effects.

six of the drone commander’s nine knobs double as push-pull switches to control signal routing and waveform selection"

that's from analogue haven's website and push's me to 99% certain no. all the same, it is simple to dial in a solid/steady drone.....that isn't what the grendel is about. i do like to use a steady drone at times from the unit, with both oscillators just out of tune with one another. Then dime my guitar amp and get my own drone/feedback going on top of those two while trying to figure eight around their frequencies. pretty lovely sound, i like tracking that and then burying it low in the mix for some discomfort. or at some point taking that track out of phase and slowly bringing it up in the mix so for the listener this diffuse thickening dissonant drone starts to envelope them. oh sorry, i just rambling now.

do you play with synths already, or are you thinking about changing gears? you might like to look at flower electronics little boy blue, and jealous heart.

I've dabbled in electronics and synths and stuff but never really went full out with it. I kind of want to change gears because playing bass recently has been stagnant/repetitive, but I always go through phases. I'm less about writing stuff than I am in the moment improv stuff which is why the drone boxes ave peaked my interest for so long. If I could just be Pete Swanson in my room for a couple hours every day or two I'd be happy

oh that would be nice, very nice indeed. i'd settle for just hanging out and jamming for a couple days straight.
I know everyone's felt stuck and like they are just bumping their head against the ceiling of their creativity. but you know, it passes. that's one reason i like to have some variety in instruments and effects and etc around. To keep it fresh and from falling into a depression when i start to feel pressure to get something finished but the light's just aren't on. I find playing the drums helps with finding inspiration. I always find it easy to come up with melodies on a kit.

playing with drone boxes is def some serious limitless potential. but you might consider keeping another instrument around to bounce ideas off, and maybe a semi modular synth like the Dark Energy to add some extra texture to the drone. but that's just what I see as far as possibilities go with oscillators. that kit you're looking into might already be just that and more. :)

Fuck I wish I had a space to play the drums. Catharsis.
But yeah, I wouldn't sell off everything, just the unused stuff.
Who knows, I always say I'm gonna do shit and and never do it.
