I always like bands that people say "oh hey this is like jesus lizard". But i don't really like jesus lizard. I reeeeally like the birthday party though. Thats the other band people are constantly comparing bands i like to.

I mean the first two Young Widows albums are pretty Lizardy as well and no-one should give a fuck because they are awesome

This is a really good point. There's a good amount of leeway for sounding different than a band but still being grounded in their sound. And, other side of the coin, you can sound quite a bit like a certain band, but still be doing your own thing.

I stand by what I said in some other thread, that I respect TJL a lot, and appreciate how influential they were, and all that jazz. And no one is crazy for liking them, I get how much they mean to a lot of people. But they are not really my deal. The guitar is really good. The vocals are not so good IMHO.

Electric Wizard on the other hand are the fucking cat's pyjamas. The cat in question is a sabretooth tiger. He sleeps in the nude.

Either way this track and its accompanying was my #1 release of 2014, and I'm looking forward to a followup.

I think I can go to normal caps now. Your mistake is in calling The White Stripes a "straight ahead rock band." If you sincerely believe this, obviously your opinion is your opinion, but it's possible you missed something. There is very little about The White Stripes that could be called "straight ahead."

Foo Fighters suck though and QOTSA are not nearly as good as people suggest. For me Kyuss was twice the band.

Also Mudfuzz, Guitar Wolf are awesome.

Seriously I was afraid to utter the words "Stone Roses" in here after the Morrissey thread and I wanted to so fucking bad.

White stripes are pretty straight ahead. I mean they bring the riffs sometimes but so many of their songs are just one riff or two/three chords. That's not to say they're bad but they are pretty straightforward.
