Thanks man!

and I agree, theres not much better I could have gotten in a 14x8 for around that price IMO. Especially with the newish heads and the nice wires. Thanks on the kit man I'm really excited and happy, I can't wait to hear it recorded in October. The pearl optimount I got for the rack tom wouldn't fit (apparently its designed for 8 lug toms not the old school 6 lugs ones....

) so I'm sending it back to MF and using the credit towards some clear Evans G2 tom heads for in the studio. Alot of people love coated heads but I'm realizing after watching alot of drummers at shows that they sound great behind the kit but sound dead and quiet out in front of the kit. And the drummers using clear two ply heads tuned up sound beast out in front, yet they always sound ringy to me behind the kit. So we'll see how they sound mic'd up.

As far as head selection goes, if you are not digging the coated sound, you might do what you are thinking and go for two ply clear. It should open up the attack a bit more. And as far as how drums sound from behind the kit and way out front will be quite a bit different. Many drummers pick heads and tune the drums they think their drums sound best "near field", vs. From a distance away. I can tune for big thundering bottom end, and the will sound cool from behind the kit, but it will sound less awesome twenty or so feet away. Sure there is always the variable of the sound guy, but that is what it is.
But, if I tune em up a bit higher and don't stress about the ring, they should sound great out front. Truth is the ring gets swallowed up in a band setting. But the little bit of extra resonance will pay off overall. But YMMV.
I Have been digging Remo Emperors over Ambassadors myself. But Evans would be G2 Clear over G1 Clear.
I know I keep linking this clip...>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwffE1FfCdoBut it illustrates that independently, the drums sound boingy, and super ringy. When he plays slow, it would make a lot of drummers want to muffle the toms or tune WAY down. But when he starts going into the fast triplets, you begin to see what I am talking about.

I can't wait to show you guys the beginning of my new drum room project in my apartment.
construction starts in about a week!
Thanks man! mucho appreciado!
Drum room in an apartment?!?!?! your a brave man.
i've got 1400 sq. ft. no neighbors, and live next to a fully soundproofed automotive customs shop. my landlord said as long as i treat the room, and build a drum riser, he supports it. and i'll be able to compose more music for my post-production job from home now.
i'll make sure to post plenty of pictures when it's all done.
i'm beyond pumped.

We're definitely on the same page.

I'm going G2 over G1 for the toms which should work out nicely, and if the ring is too much during recording I've got moongels to help cut it down. But considering they'll probably get gated in some way and the ring gets lost in a dense mix I probably won't need them.

I lucked out big time with my apartment. Now I'll be able to stay there long term, and keep recording there!
Any ILF members in chicago can come record with me both at the studio and at home!

That's awesome! Vuvuzela, you are indeed a lucky man. It is SO lame not to be able to play where you live. It is one of the driving factors that is making me seriously look into buying a house. Right now, I can only play drums when I go to John's at practice. But I really miss being able to practice when I want.
I really am excited about the long-shot idea of building a house out of cargo shipping containers. How metal right? You can cut sides and stick the together and whatnot. And because they are modular, you can always add to the house or practice space later.

I've actually long thought about the cargo containers, and it would be great if you have the space. Unfortunately I don't have too much space as to put them side by side, I could if I stacked them but not quite what I wanted. if I'm to ever build on a piece of property I'd def want to do one like I saw which was 6 of them 2 stacks of 3 side by side making a basically 3 story box.

A friend of mine bought an old small box truck just big enough to set his drums up in. Bolted them to the floor. He would drive to industrial estates or just out of the suburbs on old country roads and practice any time day or night. He loved it.

i would like to state that the current state of my apartment looks like a damn bomb went off. my lady and i switched my recording space with the larger room in our apartment to facilitate the drum room build, and it looks so bad in our place right now.
i'll have photos of the finished work as soon as i can. but right now, there's no rock n' roll being played. but there will be soon!

Thanks man! It's a beefy beast especially when tuned low. It fits perfectly with the rest of the kit, it finally feels like a unity of tones. Can't wait to hear it recorded in october.

I'm going to start to piece together a kit. Recommend me some used high hats (random place to start) and I'll start surfing the internets for used dealz...
for clarity, looking for mid-tier gear or better... don't want have to buy twice unless something really goes wrong/awesome, mostly used, on the affordable side.
