Soooooooooooo the Soul Food arrived today. What a day it's been.
Here are the sequence of events as they took place today:

Exhibit A: Soul Food arrives (thanks Chankz)
Image

Exhibit B: Fooled around with the back plate for a few minutes and finally was able to remove it:
Image

Exhibit C: Go to take the knobs off of the pedal cause I wanted to redo the graphics and 2/3 cheap pots completely split apart from the base of the potentiometer.
A few choice words were said, but I'm honestly not really surprised that they broke because the pedal feels even more cheap than any other previous recent EHX pedal I've owned.
Image

Exhibit D: I tore the remainder of the potentiometer carcasses out of the PCB, flowed some fresh solder to get the loose ends out, ran some fresh wire and wired up some 16mm Alphas. The original pots were 9mm, so this was fun. Cupcake duct tape as shielding thanks to my wife.
Image

Exhibit E: Sanded down the God-awful graphics on the enclosure, just so happened to buy Hammertone spray pant, and blasted it space and back:
Image

Exhibit F: Had a bit of illustrative diarrhea and just kept going with the graphics. It originally just said 'This is not a Klon.'
Image

Exhibit G: Actually got to play the stupid pedal for more than 5 minutes. I like it more than I remember liking the Balls Klone that I had very briefly a while back, but, I was using a solid state amp when I had the Balls Klon. I actually really enjoy it as an effect, and it's got me curious to try the real Klon as well as possibly make an actual sturdy Klone for myself. I found myself keeping the volume and gain at noon, the treble cranked, and using it that way. It's got Rangemaster brightness with the treble all the way up and really helped cut through the bass speaker I'm running the Dirge amp into now. Stacks more naturally into the Faustone Valve Klipper than the Rangemaster, but I guess that's what the Klon was designed for, pushing preamp tubes.

Whaha indeed, couldn't have imagined all this.
Classic ILF (says the rookie). :D
You can't get much more to the core of the matter.
Love you guys!

No, thank you, skullz.

I wanna know what you had to do to remove it. :snax:

I warned you it was cheap.

All other things aside, I told you it didn't sound half bad.

I cycled through about 3 different phillips screwdriver heads before I found the one that worked!
Put the pedal on the ground, forced all of my weight on twisting the screw driver, and BAM it opened

I wonder if EHX started making it really cheap because of the demand for them- they've gone out of stock a few times everywhere before, maybe they've started using shit parts for them because of how quickly they need to make them?

And yeah Chanks, I think it's a keeper. Now I'll make my own and see how it compares!

You're a stronger man than I, skully.

Also, you missed your chance to call it the "Skull Food".

I'm interested in hearing your take on the Klon circuit.

Hahahah I totally should have named it skull food! Maybe I'll paint over that spot and rename it!!!

And I'm interested too. I can't decide if I want to do a vero layout or buy a PCB and just populate it..... Hmmmmm

Well, if you start building 'em to sell, you can call it Skull Food.

I'd definitely like to see/hear a klone with a better bass response. Whatever layout you choose, I encourage you to explore that aspect of the circuit.

Yeah I want to look into the mods for bass, cause I know they are out there. Arc has the bass toggle, and I'm pretty sure Madbean has a bass toggle on their Klon as well. It's probably something simple!

The mods Finnegan used for increased bass are just resistor substitutions.

Awesome! Nice and easy. Looks like I'll be having a bass toggle on my Klon

Was it by chance or design that you painted the soul food like a sole pressure? :p

Hahaha complete chance! I had no clue what the Sole Pressure looked like until just now hahahah
