Andis T-Outliner is supposed to be really good, but I've never used one.

Weird huh?Chankgeez wrote: Aw, man, I didn't know that.I should've looked on their international site. It's a pretty popular model. So, I just guessed it'd be worldwide.
Sorry.
I did find a replacement power plug thing so you can run it on a two prong Euro outlet but that's as far as I got. Dunno why such a cool model isn't available here.

Re: The shaving thread
So, if anyone's interested, I've been shaving with those Feather blades the_carl sent me.(thanks again, the_carl.)
Aside from a MUCH lighter touch, it's not as bad shaving with 'em as I thought it was gonna be. Yeah, they're sharp. It's a nice shave, but I still like the Merkur, Derby and Astra blades though too. I guess it's good to mix it up blades wise. (I generally don't need a close shave unless I'm shaving to please a lady… and, right now, there's no lady
.)
This stuff was OK, but too much of it remained in my muttonchops after the shave:

A little difficult to wash out. So, I probably won't buy it again.
I've got a tube of the Weleda shaving cream and a tube of the Speick. The Speick doesn't do well in the heat. So, I'll probably use the Weleda for the summer. I'll take recommendations for other shaving creams. (Preferably without SLS.)

Re: The shaving thread
I like the derby blades too. $5 for 200 blades for my shavette is awesome and they work well for 1.5 shaves (which as good as those old brand name safety razors I grew up on). I have a NOS Soligen razor that I am too lazy to rehone/get it up to 10000 grit sharp. My wife thinks my straight razor thing is just another hobby but I showed her! Saved money like crazy.
I went to a wedding recently and I was helping the groom get ready/calm him down to the point where I had 5-10 minutes to shave, shower, and dress. Pulled out my shavette, tried to rush through it and sliced the crap out of my face. Bled everywhere around the house he rented (it was a destination wedding) and freaked him out more. I have a giant bandaid on my face the whole rest of the weekend which was kind of funny. First time in 7 years I've been using a straight razor I have cut myself. haha.
Didn't know this thread existed. ILF is freaking awesome. (Except that now I've got to go to work).
Shit, there was just a four car wreck outside my house!
edit: Everyone is ok. Why do people just to cut each other off? Crazy people out there.

Re: The shaving thread
Potentially stupid question...
I'm thinking about seriously cutting back my beard, if not ditching nearly all of it, for the first time in more than 20 years. For those of you that shave regularly, do you find that you're cooler, more comfortable, and/or less bothered by the heat in summer months with a clean shave or shorter beard?
I'm thinking/hoping that pruning my whiskers might make this whole global warming thing a bit more tolerable...

It is so much nicer dude. I had like a footlong beard for a while and I don't think I'd ever go back to it.

I have these and don't love themjfrey wrote:http://www.dollarshaveclub.com/select-bladeJosh Pelican wrote:Is it just one blade a month? I'm not entirely sure how it works. Depending on which kind you choose they send you 3, 4, or 5, in a package each month.
I don't think they work better than basic bags of razors from the dollar general
maybe I am missing something
I don't shave every day and when I do it is usually just the neck beard

Did you ditch it completely or just go for a substantial trim?D.o.S. wrote:It is so much nicer dude. I had like a footlong beard for a while and I don't think I'd ever go back to it.

Re: The shaving thread
Never let your face get around naked. When I want to get a trim I cut it down to 3mm. Lower maintenance than shaving every day, all the advantages in terms of facial microclimate, food hygiene etc, without the need to look like a freaky clean shaven person.

Re: The shaving thread
lately I have been trimming down when the gray patches out weigh everything else
I tihnk I use a #1 clipper setting to trim down
the neck beard is the biggest shaving concern, it is slowly creeping down, I think it will connect to chest hair over the next 5 years
at which point I just give up
