I don't think SRV ever even played 5 of his own songs in a row.

I was convinced they just fell asleep on the "The House is A-Rockin'" button.

That could happen, I have completely given up on local radio.

I just can't bring myself to listen to someone that thinks it's cool to have a song called "The House is A-Rockin".

eh, it's a pretty slippery slope if we start discounting bands or artists with cheesy song titles.

Quite possibly the greatest statement I've ever read on a message board.

i'm not a fan of the blues at ALL (pretty much hate it) and I can't stand anything with SRV singing on it... but take a listen to his instrumental cover of Hendrix's Little Wing. I consider it possibly the greatest recorded guitar performance ever. The man has absolutely outrageous skills, it's just insane. I could listen to it over and over and over.

Just for the record, it's "The House Is Rockin'", not "The House Is A-Rockin'". a fine point, maybe, but I find that much less obnoxious.
I'm not a huge SRV fan, but motherfucker could play both with fire and subtlety. Listen to "Crossfire" and check out the rhythm bit he does to end the song. so fuckin' radd.
I find a lot of his shit underwhelming just because his rhythm section was so often beer commercial-esque.
I also think people today find him obnoxious because of the legion of tone attorneys that sprung up after he died, with $4000 replica guitars and stupid fucking hats.

funny story I read - at some point when Stevie was coming up, his brother Jimmie, guitar player with the Fabulous Thunderbirds and much more of a blues purist than Stevie,
showed up piss drunk at a soundcheck or show, and started yelling at him "what the FUCK is this shit? you sound like fucking ROBIN TROWER!"

also - hate the blues? How can someone hate Howlin Wolf, for fuck's sake? or Muddy Waters or John Lee Hooker? that's crazy talk.

i absolutely hated the early SRV records...when i first heard him my instantaneous reaction was "oh, great, another fucking white boy who thinks he's Albert King." but i thought his last record showed real depth and growth as a player and particularly as a songwriter/singer/bandleader, and i thought it was truly tragic that he died just as his talent seemed to be coming to full flower. he was just begining to really cut loose and BAM.

That's an epic win for the internet right there! I'm going to use that in the future.

That is what irritates me about him... I go to the Youtubes to watch a demo, and it doesn't matter what type of pedal it is, it could be a brutal distortion, bitcrusher, flanger, the most un-bluesy effect, and you have one of his retarded minions trying to pay his riffs with it. FML.

My mom works with some guy that used to be in a band with Jimmie, and said that they'd always shoo away his little brother that just wanted to mess with their guitars.
