I just got a weird woodworking bug, and have the crazy idea to build a bass cabinet.

i would love to be able to make Real World Art things.

Sigh. You just summed up why we haven't finished our fucking album yet.

JO: "This song needs a bridge"
Me: "OK" (noodle around for 10 minutes, piece together a riff I like)
Me: "Here, how about this?"
JO: "Whoa, that's a cool riff. OK, lets try recording it" (We record it, then splice it into our song in Cubase)
JO: "It's a cool riff, but it doesn't really mesh well. But we could totally make a new song around that riff!"

This is why we have 20 songs that are 80% done, instead of 12 songs that are actually done.

Whenever I think a song "needs another part" I just listen to the first two Minutemen records.

I love that they'd have a riff that other bands would milk into an entire song, yet those guys'd play it just once and that'd be the end of it.

dood. SO much this.

thing is, and i am sooooooo lucky with this. but that's how it happens almost every time at home. so far whenever we're in Writing Mode me and Paul finish stuff. we've ditched 2 or 3 of our early songs that were shit, so we have a section from each in the Riff Bank, but almost all of our "hey what about that one thing?" chunks are from me rambling alone and not being able to finish.
