Yeah it's a lot of cabbage but I just love how it looks and the functionality of it. I end up folding it up just to to keep dust off it and hopefully play out one day....

My M-Track 2x2M just died too, after like 2 weeks. Flaky usb connection that kept getting worse until it just stopped powering up. That's what I get for trying to keep it cheap, I guess. I didn't like it much anyway, the direct monitoring came out as summed dual mono (cheapass bullshit). Not sure where to go from here, but I'm leaning towards a mixer too, maybe the Allen & Heath Zed10FX, for the extra reverb and stuff.

jia. i have a meh Behringer mixer, and was using that with a Komplete 6 before, but the K-Mix looks GOOD. lots of routing you can do with the ins/outs. still going to use a patchbay if i ever get more music space, but this will take care of pretty much everything i need by itself.

yur. fuck M-Audio. i've had loot of theirs before, never that reliable. i was tryjng to go cheap too. but it wasn't even the hundy fifty or so difference in price, it was having a rackmount interface with all the plugs in the back for CLEAN TIMES. but man that interface sucked. couldn't control the level of what was coming in. i mean, you can, but just to record. not for monitoring. stupid.

and one side of the main outs just gave up.

meh. UPGRADE.

My racks are loaded up with enough mixing options now that I can get by using a Roland module as a mixer/interface for a while longer, but I'm tired of mixing pedals, ipad and everything all in the rack. The outboard mixer/interface is going to be the final piece of the great mixing puzzle my system has become, so some bonus effects are definitely going to be welcome. And of course all the standard benefits of a normal mixer that I have so been missing, eq, pan & send knobs, fx loop, 1/4" jacks for pedals, etc. Needs. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ZEDi10FX

lol. that's funny, becauae i'm trying to do the exact OPPOSITE thing. the K-Mix has compression and reverb per channel, and that excites me. because it frees up room in my rack.

i'm just going to have a MST Stereo Output Mixer for my only summed out. and if i end up not needing it after awhile, booted for another module.

Ok I think I've crystallized what I'd like to get going as far as modular. Just a drum machine, maybe one effect if I have room, but I'd like to keep the case as small as possible. I want six different sounds I can sequence with the CV outs from the beatstep pro. A kick, snare, hat, tom, ride, and some other splashy cymbal effect probably. I've checked out a couple things like the bastl tea kick, and the pico drums. Looking for more module recommendations, and a small case that I can hopefully fit this all in. If I can do it all with little 2hp modules, I will - but open to a few bigger pieces as well. What else will I need in there besides the drum modules? A mixer?

I don't mean to totally squash your dreams, but is there any specific reason you're going modular? Why not just get a drum machine?

I will still mention some awesome drum modules (that are definitely not small HP): Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas Alter and ALM Dinky's Taiko or Haswell's Taiko. Tons of drum sounds possible in all three modules.

Yeah, if it's to sequence things with a beatstep pro, get a Drumbrute or something like that...

Nord Drum 2, I like mine. Especially if you are sequencing with MIDI, the ND2 is just a drum synth, no onboard sequencer, so it's a great fit for sequencing with something else. It has trigger inputs too but you'd get more out of it with MIDI, velocity and pitch and other CC.

Dark Barn hits it here - I've already got a beat step, I don't need another sequencer like the one that the drum brute has on board. Trying to be efficient about my use of space.

I was planning on using the six CV outs from the Beatstep to do the drum triggering?
