sounds like you may be trying to sing too high. If your voice is cracking or catching in your throat when you try to hit a certain note,

either transpose the song to a more comfortable key, or try to switch to falsetto when you get to that note?

hmm...Not sure what to tell you. Usually your falsetto can achieve higher pitches without getting raspy or strained..so, there may be an underlying problem there
