Also, while I enjoy Operation Ivy, I can't get into Rancid.

I could never nail that fucking solo, but I did tonight. This isn't even a humblebrag. I'm ashamed that I was having such a hard time learning a fucking punk song.
No shame there, that's a great song and Freeman has some really tasty bass lines. We used to play that as warm up during rehearsals sometimes, but the solo is just "Ahhhh.... yeeaah I'll just fake it and play whatever"
I still think subconsciously Freeman's tone played a small part in me buying a GK RB2000 years ago.

Got to see Rancid play Riot Fest this summer. It was pouring down raining during their whole set but they kept playing.
The thing that stuck with me the most was Matt fucking Freeman holding down the bass parts like a damn boss. A few slipped guitar parts, and because of the wind the drummer was having difficulty keeping cymbols going right, but Matt was just "I play bass, fuck you mother nature" like a boss.
Maxwell Murder is just one of those songs that always kicks ass though. Riot Fest was no exception.

So guys, I'm getting an Akai Unibass and Deep Impact this Friday. How do I go about using these? I always thought that I would never see one, let alone afford one, so I never really read into them at all. I know that the unibass is for octave up stuff and the deep impact is a synthy thing. What else can you tell me?

Sell the Deep Impact on TB for $700 buy other stuffs.
Or keep it. The Deep Impact is supposed to track pretty good monophonically. I hear it is pretty easy to program and easy to get 90s synth tones on it. I think maybe BCBC had one.

Fuck that dude. Sell it on ebay for 1200! YES!
Dude the Deep Impact is soooooooooo over rated. People are weirdos about that shit. Look right here. If you're patient, some crazy asshole will pay 1200 buck for that fucking thing.

Damn, I thought they were going down in value a bit…guess not.
Personally i would sell them both because the Unibass brings $250 or so. If you didn't even sell for $1200, say you sell it for $1000. After selling both you would have $1000.
Those 2 pedals aren't worth that much. You could buy an Eventide H9 (for Pitch Shifting and MOAR) and some other synth pedal (MarkBass SuperSynth maybe) and $400 left over.

'Twasn't me. I've also heard that it tracks the "best" out of all of the mono synth pedals. I don't think the sounds you can get out of it are all that great compared to all of the others, but if the tracking is that much better, then I could see paying 3-400 for it. But 700 to a grand is, as Kramer would say, cuckoo talk. I mean, shit, if I was going to drop that kind of money on a guitar-synth thingy, I'd probably buy the roland pickup, a GI-20 and then trigger my Nord or Virus or something like that.
The Unibass always sounded thin and artificial to me. Way back in the day, I did the bass + guitar power chords thing in my covers band, and I thought it sounded a lot better with the HOG and a Rat, which I got for around 275-300 combined. It definitely takes up more room, though.
