Is it any good on bass?

My own HP is a NOS clone down to the enclosure and sliders, built by Chuck Collins.

Yes, It can be killer with bass, but does sound like there's some bottom-end rolloff as the aggression really cuts through.
It has high clarity and touch response is VERY sensitive even when gtr-vol is rolled back.
Strings scream even when slightly disturbed, and really roar when raked.

It also sounds great with drum machines & samplers; it just really wants to be first in the chain and *see* whatever the source instrument happens to be.

One of my best purchases, f'sho; it's so fun to play.
Guaranteed to light up your face the first time you feel a taste of its power. :animal:

You'll thank me later, f'real.
Your wallet? not so much...

Got my [Chuck Collins] HP secondhand for $180ish, spring 2012...I think new they were around $280...and now they're suddenly going for $335.

I'd like to get ahold of as many clones as possible to compare.
It's one of 2 dirt boxes to survive the purge in the aftermath of transitioning from a MV SF Fender's sparkly clean base tone to the Selmer's gritty, non-master foundation.
It likes all kinds of amps and axes, and really retains a lot of your base tone's character...but transparent it is NOT!

And from what I can tell, every single one sounds different. I've had one that I made for myself, and now I have the Bukowski one, and they sound TOTALLY different

Oh hai guys.

If you check the hfe and leakage of the 2N404(A) - or whatever PNP germanium transistor you're using - you can get them to sound pretty consistent. That's the only part with significant variation. I like hfe of 50-60 for the vintage spec perc, and higher for those with silicon clipping diodes.

Also not to mention that there's a load of different schematics out there so it may actually be two different pedals inside.

No shame in yo game, welcome aboard.

srsly.

at some point i wast to do a small board that won't terrify the Average Joe at jams. Distortion+->Tone Reaper->Cosmichorus->Pleasure Trem 3000->Dispatch Master. i'd have to buy the Cosmi and Dispatch Master, which rules it out until income is a factor again. i'd really like a flanger as well, but most flangers don't appeal to me at all. i suppose i could schlep the rack along, which has enough flanging to make Davy Jones puke in his locker (GEP50, SPX90, MidiVerb II), but that raises a whole other set of issues.

You can get some flanger-ish sounds out of the CC V3 man!
I've even got some border-line octave sounds.
