Oh come on, that would be way too many for a collage. He could probably make a mosaic of something with them :poke:

So a guy hit me up for a trade on my Mike Browne. LOL. I figured...fuck it. Was originally going to trade him for a brand new rig, which included a Mesa Carbine 6, Mesa Roadster 4x10, and a bunch of other shit. The reason I didn't do that is that there was no fucking way to ship the cab really. It's weighs 175lbs roughly. So he offer me an F Bass. Never tried one, and figured, fuck it. It's a fretless, which I still wanted but had a sour taste in mouth due to the shittiness of the Skjold. This one is passive and sounds sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better. On top of that, it's super easy to play. It has side markers, which is plenty and it's sexy looking. Here's pics from the previous owner. I'll take my own soonish.

I've been gradually upgrading my bass with each trade. F Basses vary in prices but on a very good day, I could get 3k for this fucker. 2400 on a bad day.

My plan is to eventually own a Wal. It will happen god damn it.

I like that! It's the same color as my old Ibanez which for whatever reason is still one of the best sounding basses I've ever played

I was all set and ready to get my snark on, but that's actually really awesome. Passive, fretless, hot blue/green...

Too many strings, though.

The pickups were just too damn hot. I couldn't seem to get a usable tone out of it. I had owned a fretless previously (a Fender of some sort), and it sounded magical. So I was very disappointed. Plus, the lines were fucking me up. I really don't see why you would want a lined fretless. It doesn't even make sense. You have to hit the notes in a different spot with a fretless than with a fretted bass. So they were fucking me up.

The F Bass sound really, really good. I'm half tempted to put tapewounds or flats on it (has round right now), just because I think it would sound even better that way. It makes all of my effects sound magical and seriously has the lowest action I've ever used. Loving it so far!!!

And you can hear the damned things when you slide on most basses too.
Flats are something really cool on the right fretless otherwise it is just another bass with flats [which I like but that isn't the point], it's all in how smooth the board is and how much the bass rings :thumb:

yeah I dont like hot pups, makes pedals sound weird. I don't know what you mean with the fret markers. Where the lines are is where the frets usually are, which is the where the note is in tune. So you play right on top of the line instead of just behind the fret.

and if you can hear or feel the fret markers on a lined then they didn't do a good job with the lines or defret. Even my cheap $200 Yamaha lined fretless is smooth when you run your fingers down the fretboard

I prefer unlined for non rock settings where nuances of pitch can actually be heard. But as soon as there's a distorted guitar there I find the lines essential for being in tune.
My last fretless was an unlined g&l 5string and it was fine for jazz and acoustic gigs, but I couldn't swing it with any rock gigs.

I prefer unlined 100% of the time but I'm also learned how to play a DB first so I'm used to being blind. You get more comfortable after a while and then lines become distracting.

I concur. :p sorry jwarious

Awesome finish though! Most F basses I've seen have a very prominent grain and texture which I'm not a fan of.

Yours on the other hand.... Purrddyyy. I dig it!

I play DB as well, though I started on 'Lectric first. It's usually just too loud for me to tell when playing fretless. It seemed fine to me during gigs but listening back to recordings I would always hear too much discrepancy in my intonation. I only use the lines when I need them, and can ignore them pretty easily anyways. All this talk is making me want another fretless...
