Infallible
But I does not understand slap. Tried it to be annoying back when I played da bass. Did not work.
It's all in the wrist?

A.) I hate hearing bassists slap
B.) I'm fucking horribly sucky at it. Like, I just can't do it. I don't even know what I'm doing wrong.
What tune? Is the slap that necessary or could you fake it with extra aggressive fingering?

The slap is really fucking prominent. I've tried faking it with both fingers and a pick, and it just doesn't sound right.

Yeah, you deffo gotta slap that.
I used to jam that song with some double stops sprinkled in between the riff changes during the verse. Good times.

Yeah, believe it or not, I've watched tutorials before. I'm just totally retarded about this technique for some reason, it's like a mental block.

Learning how to slap is really tricky. It's up to personal preference a lot and you can do it a lot of ways really. The sound you get out is much more important than how you do it (unless you're doing in a way that is harmful).
The technique is really fun but is commonly used in a cheesy or silly fashion.
I took lessons from a great bassist for a couple years and I learned a LOT about technique, but I mostly learned slapping by myself. It's kind of addicting and a bad wanky habit for me.
Anywho maybe I can find some free time soon and I'll give my thoughts on slapping in a video

There's a couple people here that swear by the mini SVT's.
Are you trying to get something you can use live or just for recording?

Actually, now that I think about it, Sailor inadvertently touched on something upthread about what might be part of my problem. I don't wear my bass down around my knees, but it's probably still too low for proper slap technique. But the problem is, I don't want to screw with my strap length for just one song. And adjusting strap height before and after a song during a gig is gonna be a bitch.

You can get around that by slapping the strings closer to the neck.

I've heard that Fieldy has literally the worst slap technique on earth.
I've tried it. Holding the neck like that, your thumb is going across all of the strings diagonally. I have no freaking idea how he gets usable sounds out of that position. The only way I can get decent sounds is sitting down, with my thumb parallel with the strings. The only way to do that standing up is the hike the fucking bass up into my armpits. This sucks.
