Man Hoy…glad you have a good attitude about it all.
So glad that I am out of Food Service, I did when I was young, then got into construction and then did it when I first went back to school. I love to cook too but sure don't need to do it for a living. Getting some sort of certificate will be good.
I am FINE, just got married, my 5 year old daughter lives WAY closer to me so I have her a lot more. School is BUSY and hard but I am doing pretty good and I still have my PT job/internship (paid).
Music wise, I am having fun with a few less pedals, still farting around on synths and drum machines and have started working on putting together a Eurorack Modular synth. Might be joining a Misfits cover band that plays out every few months.

Check out The Elements too if you haven't yet Hoy. It can do OD, distortion or fuzz territory. Actually it can even be just a nice boost too come to think of it. It's so versatile, I ended up buying two! :)

I had a similar experience with music and being a band director, hoy. Not assholes and stuff. More that it made me lose my passion for it. I barely touched my bass for four years will doing that. People who say "do what you love for a living" are fükterds.

Yeah, that's something that I've been wrestling with a lot lately, actually. I'm coming to a different conclusion: like what you do for a living, but be passionate about the stuff you do outside of work. There's nothing wrong with being passionate about work, but I've found that my life has gotten so much better once I stopped letting my job define me. But that's just me.

hurpah durp. fuck YEAH the Elements. such a good pedal. i need a more simple layout for live stuff, with a full board i want to just worry 3 knobs (get it Chankgy) instead of 19, but that thing is a BEAST.

f'realz. i'm jelly of people that are rokkstars and music is their life and they don't have work getting in the way of shows or practices or writing.... but i'd be skeered of making the thing that brings me the most peace and joy my job.

good for you for stepping away HoyToy.

I'm really learning quite a bit about myself through this break.

What I've learned most is that I can't stand idiocy. I realize that there will be a certain amount to deal with in any job. I can deal with idiot coworkers as long as they show up and get the job done (good luck with that in the food service industry). As long as can call them out on their shit.

It's customers that seem to be the most boneheaded and selfish. You can't really tell a customer that even though that's what everyone is thinking. That's bad service. So what do you do, strap on a fake smile and behnd over backwards to please someone who doesn't give a shit?

It's the reason I'm looking into things that will get me away from customers. Manufacturing.

And besides,...If I can combine Metal Fabrication (Pedal Enclosures) CNC/Machining (knobs, bridges, etc etc) and electronics engineer (circuits etc etc)? Yeah I'd have to have a real job but......

These are all things I've wanted to pursue in the past, but could never cultivate the skills since I was too busy working for other people.

yurp. feeeeeel you. i'm lucky where the people that are idjits at my job are more funny than soul crushing. only food service industry jobbers i've had was KFC and pizza delivery for Round Table as a kicken. KFC helped move me away from eating meat, Round Table made me want to never work somewhere that sent me to the hood. got robbed CONSTANTLY. luckily most cats were stoned as hell and were happy with the extra pizza i packed and some garlic bread instead for just such an occurance when they found out i had maybe $12 on me and i explained that you had me DELIVER TO YOUR HOUSE.

musics - then again, rokkstar'ing it in a bus and having a bunch of responsibilites centered around music and maybe getting bored playing the same set over and over..... i'm willing to try that instead of getting to work at 7.22 this morn and busting ass to get out by 3 so i can take a shower and drive an hour to do soundcheck then sit around till 9 to play for 45 minutes and have to wait at a club with bands i prooooooobably don't super dig on until 2 to get paid $75 or a WHOLE HUNDRED DOLLAHS if we're lucky.

gimme?

behndy wrote:yeah. B3k has had me sprung since i got it. Outlaw is good too. i dig that a lot.
I've played with the Outlaw a bit from your tourbox. I dig it, but I'd say it's a bit higher gain than Hoy-boy described. Even with the gain most of the way down, I was getting a pretty good amount of distortion. Maybe you could tame it a bit by blending in clean, but I HATTTTTEEEE the sound of clean blends, so I kept that knob all the way off the whole time.

I don't really use a lot of pedal overdrive anymore, I just use my amp for that. I guess the Devi Ever LP/EB is my lowest gain pedal, I use it as a grindy OD sometimes when I don't feel like switching my amp levels mid-song.

The Darkglass B3K seems to fit the bill but the price is a little out of my league.
There's a Singing Tree in the classifieds for under a hundy. YOU WANT IT.

re: loving what you do doing what you love...

I do that. And right now I'm so broke I can't buy that singing tree.

I don't really care about loving what I do so much as not hating what I do.

When it turns into, "let's see what sort of shit show today turns out to be" and "Let's see who can call in sick; forcing me to work a double and not get paid for it"

It's time to move on.

RE: OD. I was thinking about having a look at the Catalinbread SFT. Do we still like that company or are they assholes?

Catalinbread is good folks. I just never got on their amp-in-a-box thang. I would always accidentally nudge the volume knob on the SFT (and I go barefoot, not even with big ol' waffle stompers). I like the new stuff they've been up to, the Jack Deville-designed delays and dat Callisto and such.
