I know EHX is budget oriented at this point and I have no complaints about it, but it's a shame they decided to make those generic smooth barrel knobs their go-to look. The knob design on pretty much any other vintage pedal they've done would look cooler and they certainly buy in enough volume to make pretty much anything they want affordable. I don't generally care too much about that sort of thing and it doesn't effect my purchases, just an opinion.

What? EHX comes out with this awesome new pedal that trumps all these lame boutique clones, and that's all you can talk about, complaining about stupid shit???

Just kidding, dude
So long, Bossman! (he got the boot, right?)

Maybe we should start calling him "BootMann"? :idk:

I think SRC'll do pretty well selling knobs to people who buy these. :snax:

You're not doing it right, just pick up from the middle of the last argument you were having, like I know what you're talking about. Accuse me of supporting some brand I've never mentioned for bonus points.

I'll probably keep it around, although I still stand by the fact that muff tone pots are boring as fuck. Definitely nothing new there. :p Here's a pic for no real reason. Mix of thru-hole and surface mount and Russian Santa battery.

Are we just choosing to ignore the Dopesmoker lyrics on the circuit board?

I would not read too much into it. Gino, the Engineer at EHX who spearheaded this, said they play Sleep often at work. He knows Matt Pike is not a Big Muff user. As he said, the hidden quote was simply an homage to them, as Dopesmoker is sort of a “Stairway to Heaven” to some stoner metal guitarists, many of whom like to use Russian Big Muffs to get that sound.

Wanted to get one anyway but I'll definitely get one because of that too. Cheesy? Maybe but it's a green muff in a small enclosure for cheap and I love Sleep.

IMO if EHX is making money off of this, then Sleep should be compensated. See (b) below, which comes from the link posted below it.
In cases where short phrases are used to sell things, court decisions appear to follow two general rules:

(a) a court is likely to find that common short phrases used in advertising or label copy-for example, “FDS is the most personal sort of deodorant” are, by themselves, usually not protectible [15] and

(b) if a popular phrase is hijacked for a blatant commercial use-for example, using “E.T., Phone Home” on drinking mugs [16]-courts are more likely to find infringement.

Not being used to sell anything. It's not visible on the exterior of the pedal nor is it present in any of the marketing. It's just an easter egg on the circuit board. Any lawsuit would probably get thrown out on a 12(b)(6) motion.

I'll take your word for it, since you're the law student. But to me it looks like a covert marketing tactic. EHX knew these pictures would get around the internet.

Not saying that I necessarily disagree on that point, but Judges and juries tend to be out of touch with things like viral marketing so they probably wouldn't really give much thought to the argument.
