The formal just means a more serious attitude. I'm going to guess no alcohol since it's not exactly does with safety equipment and there are many gnarly drops if you are not careful. Alcohol and full scale shenanigans can be had at night.

I think the idea would be set up camp in Portland, make some gear decisions, then make a caravan and all head to Satsop together

There has to be somewhere we can also play in Portland? Someone has a rehearsal space or something? Worst case scenario we can apologize for giving hovercraft so much guff and play in there workspace? Lots of rad companies based in Portland.

Hey I might actually be able to do this in November. Maybe I'll have some of my gear back by then too. If not, I'll be playing my jazzy through everyone's spare pedals hah!

How many people do we think we might be, and how much space do you think we'd realistically need? I can look into spaces for sure.

I don't really know much about what's available here in P-Town, but I'd be glad to offer any help I can?

Is it time to try to pick a weekend? Then we can all start really looking at flights and requesting time off work. Or are we waiting to maybe get some options on time from the nukes? I would think November 5-6 weekend would be the best? That way people aren't traveling too much right around Thanksgiving.

Waiting for a reply from the nukes, I'm going to play it flexible to hopefully get a good deal. They're not picking up the phone, so I left a message. I think they might be out on a vacation or something, small 2 person operation if I remember correctly. I'll call back again next week. Early November seems to works best, seems like ticket prices double after Nov 18

I can probably swing the 5-6, depending on the nukes.

(of course now we're on the no-fly list because of that, sorry guys).

I've been out of the Internet world a lot recently and have totally missed the developments in this thread. I'd love to help. I probably won't be able to make it to the reactor site. Is that the one on the Olympic peninsula? Seems further than two hours to me, but I could be wrong. The closer one off of I-5 got demolished some time ago. Anyway, I'm way to busy for the next couple of months to help much with planning, but I'd love to hang with you guys. If you're still looking for a space in town, there's an art collective called disjecta that rents out their space for private events and shows. It's a pretty cool space and decent sized. Not centrally located exactly, but incredibly easy to get to. It's in a cool neighborhood. There could be beer too. They don't list rates on their website, so I don't know if it's doable. I'll rack my brain for other good spots too. I have a practice space, but if more than two people show up it'd be too small. But I can bring a sick amp and would be stoked to meet some folks.

Hell yeah, would be glad to meet you.

Google estimate 2:15 from Portland without traffic. 2:30-2:45 with. Last time I was there ~5 years ago, it was still up, and it still is taking orders for acoustics testing, and transformers filmed there in 2014. So maybe you're thinking of a different place.

Also in case anyone else is around, I will be in LA before this, and in Washington afterwards.

I could probably swing November 5-6. I would really like to make it out to this, but will admit a lot hinges on whether i can get farm work this fall or not. Either way, put me down as like, 75% likely?

I got full details from the plant. They are more than happy to rent to us, but there is also a bit of bad news. First off, the price is dependent on how many of us go. For a group of 6-10 the fee would be $100 per hour. For a group of 11-15 the fee is $125 per hour. So depending on how many of us decide to go, that's about $16-$9/hr each. That includes access to all the locations at the site including the cooling towers (one open air, one closed), the actual nuclear reactor room, and the various tunnels and whatnot.

Now the worst of the news. We would be required to get insurance. I'll shop around, but it may be difficult to obtain a proper Commercial General Liability plan since we're not exactly commercial entity. I'll also see if they'll take an event liability insurance instead, which may be easier to get. I'm going to do a bit of research and see if I can get any arts grant into the project to help out with either just the insurance or the actual rental. I am still technically a Washington resident, so that should help with grants.

The other bit of bad news is that they do not do weekends, only Mon-Fri 8am-4pm. So my recommendation would be to make this an optional side excursion on either Friday or Monday for those able to get the day off. If we get a min of 6 to commit to at least 4 hour session, longer if we find funding, I think it will be worth it. And then focus the main event at a rehearsal venue all weekend long in Portland. Alternatively, we could also just find some other interesting venue, or not do it at all. Let me know if there is still interest and I should pursue this further. I am more than ok not doing it, but I feel like this would be amazing if we can make it affordable.

Side note: Anyone down to share a hotel/airbnb/hovel/artisanal cardboard box in Portland?
