Guardians is a pretty big event for Marvel, even if they are just waving their dicks around at this point. Just that they're in a position to show their entire ass now with talking animals and everything, and not give a fuck, is priceless to the fanboy community, as are all the little cameos and comic book references and foreshadowings. I liked the relaxed tone of the movie, and that it wasn't 100% super serious. As the first of a new series it works well. I definitely like the idea of taking their time to slowly tell everyone's origins and stories across several movies, instead of cramming it all into the first one.
Rocket's voice and personality took some adjusting to, and weren't at all how I imagined. The comic character didn't really make me associate a mature human voice with that appearance, I guess. He might actually be a little too harsh for toys and cereal boxes, but Marvel is a Disney property now, so who knows. It's pushing it though, which is kind of cool.
I think Thanos' appearance will improve as he gets more screen time. He looked OK, but not amazing yet.
Not as many cameos as expected, but a few really nice ones. Awesome flashback shot of a Celestial with an Infinity stone. I was hoping for Bug, since he was a member of the original Quill team in the comics.
Ronan looked great, but was missing pretty much everything background-wise that makes him a cool character in the comics.
I also was hoping we'd get to see the Kree Supreme Intelligence, definitely a missed opportunity for something awesome there. Maybe in the next one...
Michael Rooker was the same character he always plays, but it fit well enough. I hope he gets the part of Jody in the AMC Preacher show, if that's still happening.
Great after credits scene, put the perfect signature on it.

Yes! Thank you!
Plus Alan Rickman fucking rules. Apparently it was his first screen role (i think someone here may have told me that...).

'parently he wasna s'posed to drop into Affected American Accent either, they heard him goofing around with a sorta midwest drawl and loved it, wrote the whole section of him getting close up with MacLAAAAAAAAANE sort of on the spot.

Bronson is a great movie. Thom Hardy kicks major arse as an actor. Have you seen lawless? That is a personal fave.
