Not sure why, but on music123, the Laney IRT60h dropped $200 to $650 new. I think someone on here had one of these or the 120 watt version and was happy with it.

Dang, that's a tough call.
I'm no drummer, but my ears prefer tama.
There is a fair chance that is purely psychological and has no basis in reality though.

The Tama's have much nicer shells but smaller sizes, which would work just fine. But I'm a big dude... playing a bigger set looks more correct for me hahaha
Let's put it this way the White pearls would be like an Epi LP standard, the Tama's would be like a a Gibson SG Standard.....

I assume the dodgy quality control isn't being factored into this analogy?

yooooooooo that kit is tight.
I genuinely do not believe there is a single perceivable difference between tama and pearl and Yamaha and sjc and any other brands that aren't c and c, dw, or vintage (since they all do very unique things with shell construction). The size of the shells, type of bearing edges, and kind of heads are what really determines the sound.
Personally, I am not a fan of the shallow toms as far as look or sound..they lack balls. While the tama kit you posted before has a nice finish, superior hardware (diecast hoops, tama spurs), I think youll be a lot happier with the sounds you can get with that pearl, especially if you're playing rock/metal/doom/punk. The tamas would be superior for a more universal kit-like for people who play "fusion" (whatever that is). The pearls are a classic les paul, the tamas are a strat or prs.. functional, but not bad ass.
If I needed a kit (I cant justify having two), I would jump on that pearl over the tama in a heartbeat.

I've all ready checked out the tama's in person. This one actually passed QC.

This is actually what I'm leaning toward. It would allow me to build my Des Kensel "Death is this Communion" Pearl kit:
I agree with the shells, until you get into extremely high price ranges and truly custom shells theres very little perceivable difference especially when mic'd up at a club through heavy effects or behind a dense wall of sound. The Tama kit sounds amazing, and the reason I was mainly considering it was that the band I'm potentially playing in has a big black metal influence and they are using single foot blasts alot more now. So the smaller toms would be better IMO for faster tom work. But then I think to myself, dude just man up and play that shit on the bigger kit.
