Well you don't
need one. It really just makes things easier. You can also spend a bit more to get one with additional functions like the Xaoc Sewastopol

You know an easel runs audio at line levels...

You can also get a Mackie mixer on the side so it doesn't take up HP, but either way yea this stuff is necessary. Don't want to be shooting modular level signals at full blast.

SOLD MY AMP !

now I've got around $1K CAD to start with modular synth, not much I know but still... what do I buy now
Would love a 6U 84-104HP case with Sputnik Modular Keyboard in the bottom row but I would probably have no money left for actual modules
I thought maybe something like that ? (I know I'm not getting all of this with 1K

)

Oh shit Delta, haven't heard from you in forever. That's awesome though! How are you liking it?

Hey! I am doing well, let's catch up via PM soon.
I really dig it so far. I got 2 panels and one of his powered cases that holds 4 panels, so over this year I will complete it. Bottom line, it sounds awesome! It really sits at the crossroads of east coast/west coast/chaos. Quite and interesting an unique system.
I am still rocking my Buchla too.

Hey guys, I just bought a Qunexus with MIDI expander, do I need a MIDI module like Yarns to use it with eurorack or can it be used with any modules? I'm trying to figure out what modules I will buy first.

It has CV outputs that can be used with any modules.

Thanks! the guy who sold it to me said I had to get the expander to skip computer.. So I would be fine with a setup like this ?

I tried something interesting I read on a Muffs thread (happens once in a while...) and filtered a noise source, modulating the cutoff frequency with that same source. Can be useful to get crackly sounds, etc. I did that with a Hexinverter VCNoiz and an Intellijel uVCF. The VCNoiz is a (CMOS based ?) digital noise source with controllable frequency (exp and lin) and with a couple of lower rate but related additional outputs. And also a clock in and out (square oscillator).
I got some really nice crackly sounds by using the bandpass out and modulating the cutoff with both the normal noise output and the /8 one (as I said, related but lower freq). And then I extended that by plugging the uVCF's output in a WMD/SSF Ultrafold. The Ultrafold is an awesome overdrive/wavefolder and has a feedback input into which you can patch audio too.
Anyway, after quite a bit of patching with these 3 modules (totaling 18HP) I got a really nice clocked but semi-random clicks and bass (from the uVCF just beginning to self-oscillate) and subtle hissy sounds thing going on that I would never have gotten if I had used more modules and patched things according to a specific plan. That's one of the reasons why I love modulars...
