Either today or tomorrow, I'll have my first Dirge pedal, a Fuzzrite at that

The music I'm into relies heavily on pedals as well. All the best Sludge bands use fuzz pedals. I don't know what it is that keeps me from investing in a solely clean amp, seeing as my favourite tone almost always involves a fuzz pedal of some kind. Maybe it's because I change sounds so often and always like having amp dirt when I fancy the fragile harmonics and want to stay clear of the crystal lattice.sonidero wrote:GIMME DEM CLEANS!!!
The music I'm into has never been about Amp Distortion...
It's far easier to find pedals I like. There are so many fuzz pedals out there that kill, but only a few amps like the JCM800, Sunn Model T, Fryette Deliverance give me shivers when it comes to distortion. Most of them are too weak and feeble. But I still have reservations about buying a clean amp. It's really weird.dubkitty wrote:I roll either way...i played through a Fender Twin for ages, but nowadays use a Laney (EL84 breakup over 4 on the volume) and a Kalamazoo Bass 30 (7591s that break up at 3). i got into the other amps because i played Fenders for 35 years and wanted something new/different. i prefer some amp distortion--my favorite amp i ever used was a silverface Princeton Reverb--but if you NEED to be brutally loud and do anything other than dirt sounds you really need an high wattage amp that stays clean into its upper volume range. i still have the head (well, the chassis) from my Twin and will eventually have it serviced and put into a head cabinet so it's available when i need to blow out eardrums.
this is one of them thingsWarpsmasher wrote:Morpheus Bomber incoming.

yes. i have a fairly small list of amps i really love, and i couldn't use about 75% of the stuff that's out there because it doesn't fit what i do. i like AC30s but AC15s leave me cold; i love Twins and Princetons but cannot get a thing from a Deluxe Reverb, ancient or modern. meanwhile i have way more pedal dirt than i can even use at the moment, and only one fuzz cost more than $250 which is what i paid for my Kalamazoo.AngryGoldfish wrote:It's far easier to find pedals I like.
Dub, have you ever played a vintage Showman or dual Showman? If you haven't, I STRONGLY urge you to check one out if you can find one.dubkitty wrote:yes. i have a fairly small list of amps i really love, and i couldn't use about 75% of the stuff that's out there because it doesn't fit what i do. i like AC30s but AC15s leave me cold; i love Twins and Princetons but cannot get a thing from a Deluxe Reverb, ancient or modern. meanwhile i have way more pedal dirt than i can even use at the moment, and only one fuzz cost more than $250 which is what i paid for my Kalamazoo.AngryGoldfish wrote:It's far easier to find pedals I like.
See, I do entertain the idea of getting an amp that does like...distortion. And, the V4 cranked sounded great. But, with it set kinda clean, and the master up, it was way more grin inducing to turn on a fuzz. And, then, my PA-135 is pretty much clean with 10 on the gain and master, and that going into an 8x10 pushes bricks of air. It's kinda this line of thinking that's got me wanting to get an SVT for guitar.AngryGoldfish wrote:The music I'm into relies heavily on pedals as well. All the best Sludge bands use fuzz pedals. I feel pretty much the same about amp distortion but I've found a couple in the Dwarvenaut and Loucks where the gain is voiced perfectly, a little old school sounding yet thick and crushing, almost fuzzy with increased clarity. That said, I generally run both amps loud with just a little breakup. Gives 'em nice character, both clean up well with guitar volume adjustment, and pedals hit so much harder this way. I'm def after clean headroom with any amp but the gain has to be available to dial things to taste. The results I hear with fuzz into a crystal clear clean channel isn't always the best, both the sound and feel seem off to me so I've always steered clear. The Dunwich is the closest I've come and it packs plenty of grit if need be.AngryGoldfish wrote:It's far easier to find pedals I like.
