No you arn't but my take is a OD should sound like a amp being overdriven be it tube or SS, fuzz started out as a broken mixer channel and most homemade ODs are based more on this concept. I'm not saying I don't like the sound at all and have used a very similar sound pedal as my light dirt sound [Mellowtone Electric Apple] but

Pretty often, the fuzzyness (or sometimes fizzyness) of most bass ODs, makes me want to hit someone with a shovel.
IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT
I feel that the FEA dual band distortion was the most promising of the bunch, but never had enough funds to get it.

I finally got a chance to listen to this last night on my good monitors.... fuuuucking awesome.
It's funny... I was playing this for a few minutes before I boxed it up for you and I forgot how sexy it was.
I had a riff going (totally different from yours) but it's always cool to see how the same pedal can work with completely different styles.

One of the best overdrive-y sounds I've found lately has been the Dirge boost -> Sparkle motion. Barely there, adds just that little bit of oomph.

hurm. i guess like... because my "clean" tone is the Rusty Box with the gain at about half that i already get that lightly there griminess? so i want the OD to be a bit present?
