So I've begun to do some preliminary planning for a skiff.
I will have a Kilpatrick Phenol (2 oscillators, 2 VCAs, 2 filters...) as well as a BeatStep Pro to interact with the case.

Here's where I'm at currently: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/425955

It's going to be a slow process--I'll likely get a case and 1-2 modules to start and then every couple months add a module until it's done.

I want the ambient, drone, soundscape stuff...but I also want the capability of melody...rhythm (think Cortini...).

What am I missing? Other suggestions? Which two modules would you buy first?

You'll need something to interface the Phenol's banana with the euro minijacks. Play with the Phenol first and see what else you would like to add. Your needs and someone else's could be quite different depending on how you use it.

Not to get all "tone is in the fingers" but Cortini in particular has an outstanding ear for his workflow -- you can put that dude on literally anything and he will make beautiful stuff.

raj007, you could keep the eurorack and Phenol separate but use the Beatstep to control both. If you want to crosspatch Phenol and euro you'll need some kind of "format jumbler" and probably some thing that can attenuvert and offset in your eurorack. Maths can handle attenuversion but if you use it for offset also you're using a lot of Maths for a small task. Maybe replace Kinks or the crossfader with a WMD S.P.O.

Sorry I don't know the voltage ranges on the Phenol off hand, so I'm sort of guessing regarding the offset/attenuversion.

Low Gain electronics makes some affordable standalone passive format jumblers that you may want to check out.

Kilpatrick actually makes a "grounding kit" to hook up between the Phenol and Eurorack. They also make Banana to 3.5 that come with the kit :)

Ya I was wondering if Maths was overkill for a small system

I didn't mean to knock Maths, it's very good and hard to beat hp-wise for any size system, for all it does. I meant to say that if you need offset/attenuversion for a lot of patches between Phenol and euro, that you might not want to tie up Maths with just a that job. Maths is a great Swiss Army knife.

Check out this 66HP case from Volsk (I think???) saw it through this Russian shop https://www.instagram.com/mmag.ru/?hl=en
I'm not much for the Elektron boxes, but I reckon you could fit some other gear in there.

Holy fuck the Metropolis dudes. The fucking Metropolis. Having two aux inputs to CV parts of your sequence is fucking INSANE.

Just a small taste: https://www.instagram.com/p/BSuPE17gtmC/

The whip up octave part is by CV'ing the octave and getting the square wave timing juuuust right.

Pretty sure Ciat Lonbarde stuff would integrate a lot better with your Phenol. The Cocoquantus would probably pair very well with it.

Anybody built a ''one company only'' setup?

A couple days ago I watched some BME videos and thought ''I NEED THIS!''. Then I saw this on instagram : https://www.instagram.com/p/BSCNC0Sj6tj ... =dima_mr_d .
Needless to say I'm really GAS'ing a complete Sputnik Modular setup ! That KB omg

To me sputnik looks like a ''in comparison'' cheap alternative to the buchla.

Anybody have thoughts on a complete sputnik modular setup ? would it lack features ? What are the must have ? Where to start when you cannot buy everything at once ?

I'm really considering the option so any tips, opinions, would help :thumb:

Not super knowledgable about the whole company but their West Coast Random Source is a modular I have in my endless "clean up this mess" side of modular grid :)

Their modules are indeed pretty big, they take alot of HP in general..
