RIP Lee Konitz. :(

As I see it Trump won't have a reason to rely on the votes of Jazz music fans in November.
How many jazz heads have or would ever consider voting for Trump in the first place? I am not counting Kenny G fans or dudes (and they are all dudes) who think that Cecil Taylor is “just noise.”

After seeing that people are protesting against being able to go out and get other people sick, I thought of something that might fix that bullshit: anyone that wants to go out and "keep this economy going" despite the virus should be allowed to, but if they end up getting others sick that's an instant felony, and on top of that they lose their access to healthcare and hospitals can turn them away for whatever reason until the pandemic is over.

Guns are closer to their hearts (or could be).

I was at the grocery store today and there was a guy wearing no mask ranting at someone waiting in line about the Kennedy assassination. I didn't hear the beginning of the conversation but I'm guessing it started with him claiming covid is a hoax.

maybe they just got into it about parallels between Covid and The Stand and that lead someone to talk about more King novels?

I know that I should no longer be surprised by his and his buddies' antics, but I've never experienced such a rapid and constant stream of horrifying, disgusting, unbelievably stupid shit. My brain hasn't gone into self-preservation mode yet, sadly. It's still being blown regularly.

"Don't take my guns!", I cry, lamenting the seemingly unrelated fact that, due to layoffs, I won't be able to contract the virus at work and die for the shareholders like a real American.

After reading a post from my cousin this morning, I'm even more fucked up about all this than before. So, this is day uhhhh....I don't know? Over a month. Isolation. I'm just glad I have my family here. I feel horrible for those of you who are alone right now.

My cousins post was in regards to his father that passed and how absurd and hurtful it is to constantly scroll past people on Facebook saying "hoax", "fake virus", or complaining about a momentary restriction of their rights.

One thing solidified in my mind through all of these. Most people only care about themselves. As someone who cares probably too much, I don't get it. It messes me up.

My sister went to the hospital yesterday with a temps she's had for 6 days. They put her in with all the Covid patients, tested and released her. She doesn't have it, right now that is. She was in the fucking hospital wing with them because that's what they did first. I get it but fuck. What if she gets now because of that??? It was something do with her kidneys. I worry a lot about her. She has lymes disease and has not had an easy road. I'm going to lose my fucking mind if my sister catches it. She'll die. She will. She's not strong enough to fight it. Her immune system is so jacked up. SO now, I'm just afraid for her. Afraid for us all really. This pandemic has opened my eyes in a way I never wanted.

So sorry to hear how it's affecting your family Jwar.

Totally agree on people only caring for themselves. How else could you end up claiming it's a hoax?

It has been... not great, being alone and barely leaving my small flat for a full month. But at least I'm OK, my family are OK and I'm still working and getting paid, a lot of people have it worse.

Shit Jwar, I'm sorry man. Best wishes for your family.

Shits been weird for me. Last year I started managing a restaurant attached to a hotel. Obviously the restaurant is closed now, so I'm working for the hotel. Been working 3 overnights and 2 evenings a week, just doing maintenance and shit around the hotel.

I'm happy to be getting paid but the only people we're allowed to rent rooms to are healthcare workers that can't go home because they don't want to put their families at risk. I'm thankful for my overnights so I don't run into people but some of my co-workers are acting like idiots. The chef of the restaurant started screwing one of the bartenders and now they're on vacation in the mountains. The hotel manager's girlfriend drove in unannounced from NYC and stayed here for a week before he drove her back. Now he's back and is making no effort to quarantine or isolate himself.

I don't know why this is bringing out the crazy in everyone. Meanwhile I'm over here pulling third shift at this hotel and living The Shining.

Even Canada is going off the rails with this mass shooting deal, now.
What the fuck is going on with people? It feels like the beginning of an apocalypse movie, but one where the apocalypse was the result of weaponized stupidity and not just a major calamity.

It's not time to panic until Luke Wilson gets relevant again.

How do I surrender to this? I'm spent. I can't juggle the career and the kids and all...I just want to chill and play some bass and make some weird noises. All I ask for is an hour of time....maybe a week? I mean, I know I shouldn't feel jealous of those who are alone and unemployed...I know I'd get lonely and bored after about 7 months give or take.

Edit: Should also mention, my aunt died from covid, my college roommate (42 yrs old) just keeled over last week at home (not sure why yet)...and my kids camp is holding thousands of dollars hostage saying that summer camp is still on - this is just peachy. Bought an above ground pool yesterday on amazon for the LOOOONG summer stuck at home that's coming.
