Yeah, Hanks solo stuff is all awesome country and blue grass, then there's assjack and he does doom out occasionally.

Back onto building: has anyone used wallpaper on a cab? Sounds totally naff, I know, but could it be sealed to be a bit more battle hardy/beer proof?

glue it down let it sit for a couple of days to cure and then apply 3-4 coats of a good oil based polyurethane. That should work for you.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought.
Oil based will form more of a resin, but do you reckon there's a danger it'll fuck with the inks/dyes in the paper?
Thanks mang.

it shouldn't but the best bet is glue a small piece to some scrap wood and let it dry and then lay a coat on it, let it just sit and come back to it later. If it looks good you are safe if not, maybe try water based though it's not as great but still pretty decent.

I had to do that for this oil based gold paint to make sure it was safe, I lucked out. so I can go full out now.

Definitely gonna run a tester....the paper I had in mind is not cheap (way suave).
Was that to seal a painting?

No it's actually for this ported 212 cab I've built. Ol boy wanted gold trim. Like gold gold not yellow. So I found some oil based paint that pretty much looks like melted gold, applied it used a heat gun to smooth it out with no brush strokes and now I'm letting it cure for another couple of days and using a spray polyurethane that's the same Old Master's gloss I like using. I'm going to spray a coat on that so I don't get any brush strokes with my brush and then I'm going to seal it normally with the gallon of Old Masters I use.

I normally use acrylics and use a acrylic based spray to seal them. :)

Post pics man. I hate gold, but I'd love to see the final result.

I went to paint a guitar silver/chrome, back when I was a foolish young man and didn't know dick about anything. I had the body looking like a mirror, took me forever, went to seal it and used the wrong kind of clear coat. I think it was Cabothane, which I'd used previously on stains and had great results with.

Fucking paint melted of the bitch.

I wept.

I still have that guitar body though and over the years have grown to love it, stained it black a while back and it looks like industrial scrap now.

Gold is either amazing, or gaudy. I hope it turns out well.

That cab is looking beast as hell now!

Oh and here are pics I promised:

4 coats each, hardware just showed up so I'll throw them on monday.

Also started and it's now to the point of sanding and staining, another Tallboy but in birch and done in 45s it was a pain in the ass to join together and frame up. I just about scraped it but I managed through. I doubt I'll do another one like this. Also the pile of wood behind it is the 612 cab.

Did you use a jig to do that?
Was the issue the tall sides and keeping it all square or something I am not thinking of?

I have a table saw that allows me to rip the boards at 45s
you can see it here under the orange cab:
Image

But it was sort of both, Now I have it laying down when I join them but I also biscuit joined them outside of the brace joints on the inside as well. It was just a pain the ass all the way around getting it to form correctly with the biscuits and then once I finally got them all in place I was able to stablize it and square it up properly... also what sucked is I had cut this prior to me leaving to go out of town to work so the longer sides actually bent a bit from the humidity. So that didn't help much in trying to make it square, they are still a bit bent outwards but a lot has been taken out as I've worked it to a cab and will completely be straight once the back goes on.
