Not so! First thing is to crank everything to see if you can break it or things with it, then once it is established that nothing breaks you can go about finding sounds, then once sounds have been found and noted you crank it all again play a big chord, put the guitar on the ground and walk away for a bit so that you can contemplate the meaning of the universe which is very antianticlimactic :thumb:
OK, I'll do it your way, but something might break.

The speaker in the amp I'm using is a vintage Jensen. It might get blown. I'm fine with that though. It's on its way out anyway and needs replacing.
yeah the happy sad thing about old Jensens, they sound so good, they die so fast  I've never had much luck with guitar speakers  old PA speakers and bass speakers live longer :thumb:

I'd replace it with a bass speaker, but it might be difficult to find a suitable 8" bass speaker.

if you really really mean it then I'd track down what SWR use to use in the Henry The 8X8, those are really nice sounding cabinets :thumb:

Thanks, Mudfuzz, I do mean it, but I don't have the funds to make the purchase right now. I'll keep that in mind though.

How about a blind taste test? Have someone else do the A/B switching and knob-fiddling?

I'd be up for that. I don't have an A/B box though.

I'm fairly certain that's not really needed. It'd be interesting though. I feel confident I can tell the Soul Food apart from most other klones or a real Klon. I remember a while back PGS did a video which was a blind test between a Klon and a Lovepedal klone. It was pretty easy for me to tell which was which.

I may as well start wrapping up this part of the Klon vs. Soul Food comparison. I think above all else that needs to be said, and I think I've already mentioned this, but it's worth repeating: Even with the gain on the Soul Food rolled all the way off (it's self proclaimed "clean boost" mode), it still has much more gain than this klone or the Klon. As a result it colors the sound more. It's just not as well suited to what I use it for, primarily as a clean boost. I think it'd be put to better use as an overdrive.

I run the Centaur last in my chain. (Which, if I had to use a Soul Food in this application is where I'd place it as well.) So, everything gets fed into it. I don't want any additional coloration than what I already have. That's what all the fuzzes and other sound modifiers are for. I just want something that's gonna bump up the whole signal. I'd say that's probably not the best application for the Soul Food. The Soul Food is capable of lots of good sounds, but it wouldn't even make my top 10 choices as a clean boost. I understand other people might use the pedal differently than I do, for them it may work better in their chosen application.
