Waltz is Tarantino. Tarantino is Waltz.

Used to be Samuel L. Jackson, but man his character in Django was a mother fucker. Waltz's last two QT performances have been amazing though, so I'm not sure who will go down as his best characters as time goes on.

lol. Tarantino DOES love him some Waltz. he's awesome, but the difference to me is that while Waltz is just fun to watch when he's doing his thing, and he was such a polite OMINOUS EVIL FUCK in the intro of Inglorious Basterds and before he chokes out the actress character.... but he's always Christof Waltz. in every thing i've seen him in. Sam Jackson has shown some range. hell, you expect him to be Angry Righteous Motherfucker Sam Jackson in Django, and he's Shifty Wily Leo Dicaprio Loving But Behind The Scenes Controlly Uncle Tom Motherfucker. so goooooooooooood.
01) the scene where Waltz talks to the actress in the room, shows her the shoe, then chokes her to death? the first person angle of that is Tarantino's hands around her throat.
02) did you know Inglorious Basterds is a remake? sort of? not really a remake, but they had one in 1978. have it on the blurays, it's in the queue to watch.

QT is many things, but an original storyteller he is not.

It's actually been explained that there are 2 main Tarantino universes.
First is the one that everyone tends to live in: Pulp Fiction, Reservoir dogs, Inglorious Basterds, uhhh, a few others.
The second is the "movie universe", which is basically this hyper-violent universe that people in the first one would watch: Kill Bills, Death Proof, etc.
So that description of Kill Bill would be accurate.

But if you think about it for more than a bong-load, you'll realize that this is just him rehashing. The same way Stephen King uses 'Randall Flagg' in tons of his books and stories. Having a self-referential universe is another way of saying that you've got a small box of ideas and themes that you continually go back to. The guy has only made 5(?) films.
I would love to see Tarantino tackle someone else's script (and I don't mean biting stylistic elements from relatively obscure filmmakers).

he definitely has his own style, that has obvious influences from different styles, but i always feel it's more if a Do What You Know You're Good At. like, i KNOW going in there's going to be horrible violence, but done in an over the top comical style, quoteable dialogue that might be a bit more erudite than you'd expect from that character, and at some point somebody's going to go on a long ramble on something that's been bothering QT (i read that as Cutie. and that makes me HAPPY.) lately that might not totally fit the story.
but even with those common elements he always draws me in and entertains me. i don't think he's made a movie i don't like. his Four Rooms section was awesome, i love all his full movies, even just writing the script for True Romance made it so goooood. that shitfest that Oliver Stone ripped the script apart and made, Natural Born Killers, was kinda awful. but he's asked to have his name taken off that 'cause it's not what he wrote.
love his work. sorta a fanboy, and i dig on the interconnectivity between films. it's cute having stuff like the Vega brothers in Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs (Pulp Fiction Lite). RED APPLE CIGARETTES EVERYWHAR.
actually, Resevoir Dogs is the only thing he did i don't really like. but Tim Roth is in there before he took acting lessons or something.

for sure. i love stuff like that.
lol. there's a theory (same Cracked article i read the Inside CUTIE'S Movieverse Blockbuster Film = Kill Bill) that Fight Club is Calvin and Hobbes grown up.
BEAUTIFUL. I LIKE THAT MOVIE EVEN MORE NOW.

I mean I like David Lynch, so...
I will say the Django script is all right, but definitely not Best Screenplay material. I haven't seen the movie yet, though I want to.

it was just.... boring? i liked seeing Rodney Dangerfield be a complete scummer, but most of it felt like an old, over-the-hill director trying to be HIP and VIOLENT like all those young whippersnappers.
meh. MEH I SAY.
