Boss DD-5 or DD-6 (depending on what options you want), I went from a DD-5 to an El Cap back in the day and what your looking for was immediately what I missed about the boss delay. Even under extreme gain the repeats were punchy, audible and crisp. The only other delay I've heard that a similar quality is the Moog MF-104M, mainly thanks to the input and output gain controls.

I'm being lazy and not looking it up but what are the main differences between the DD 5, 6 and 7?

I've never wanted my delays to be too punchy for the most part, but when I do the DD7 does the job well enough for me.

Apart from say the different delay modes on each one (that would take alot to type out...) these are the main differences.

DD-5 = Mono In but also Tap Tempo in

DD-6 = Stereo in / out but no tap tempo

DD-7 = Stereo in / out + tap tempo

Thanks. I was thinking that I might need a digital delay, but I was really hoping there would be an analog option...I had a dmm right before the el cap and I miss that crisp analog bounce

I still don't really have any GAS.
I've got no more room for another Eurorack module, and every time I think I want a new one I just patch my modular differently.
Going to be able to try out a SSBS Mini here soon and trade for it which will be cool if I like it.
Also jumped on that new Montreal Assembly weirdo delay sampler guy cause it seemed pretty rad.
But no really GAS or anything screaming at me which is nice.

From my experience (mind you i've only tried maybe 10-12 delays in my time) Digital Delays are superior for those crisp, crystal clear, and audible repeats. But in turn they usually end up sounding very sterile and boring, while analog is quite the opposite, usually warm and bouncy with alot of character but the repeats inherently because of that are less audible and sometimes muddy. That's why I love the MF-104M, due to the input / output gain controls you can adjust it to get those crystal clear repeats no matter how hot of a signal you give it, but they still have that warmth and warble of an analog delay. I just wish I could afford one  It's the last "pedal" I need to complete my home board, I use a timeline on my gigging board because I feel that the subtle differences in quality and the sterility actually helps with my live tone, that and I need all the different presets for different songs.

i'm at a point where i've settled almost everything. the last boxes i was GASsing painfully for are the TC XII and the Seppuku Mind Warp, and if things go right i'll have the Kalamazoo amp which satisfies my GAS for a Gibson amp with 7591s in. about the only things i have the hots for now are a looper with a longer delay time, a semi-hollow bass, a Gretsch 1958 Country Gentleman reissue, and 6 string acoustics. well, and the Delay Llama+. and a bass rig.

It's funny how you say the phrase "about the only things" and then list over 5 things

I had no gas for nearly a year and now I want everything: Verellen Meatsmoke w/custom Emperor cabs, Meatsmoke preamp pedal, Malekko ekko 600D, Earthquaker Devices ghost echo, PLLone, Dr. Scientist ILF-Day Delay, and a custom super-boombox. But I have no money. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

I love Guillaume's really simply design aesthetic. His pedals and website are so simple looking, but they're awesome in appearance.

I'm picking up an EHX DMM w/TT 1100 for my gigging board for the reasons above. Other delay pedals just don't sit right in the mix. But to be honest, if you really want cut through (I'm personally looking for both wash AND cut; a balance of the two), you should consider something like the TC Electronic Nova Delay or another digital equivalent. They just seem to cut through a little better sometimes. It does depend, though. For instance, my old Empress SuperDelay sounded fizzy and harsh with dirt, but it cut through well enough. I've had a few other delay pedals, like the Ekko 616 that balanced warmth and presence, but for the most part I've never found a perfect delay that both sat in the mix proportionately and reacted appropriately to various levels and kinds of dirt. The DMM is, from what I remember, the closest to that sound whilst still possessing the features I need. I haven't tried a Timeline. The Strymon Brigadier I played one time had a nice bounce and cut to it. I don't think I tested it with distortion though.

I haven't, no, but I really dig his work. And he's in the UK, so I'd be supporting locals.

Wow, I'm just realizing how much I talk about / think about this pedal... & I just had a fleeting thought of getting those triangles as a tattoo. Fuck.

That would be epic. You'd have to have some balls though.

I have a feeling I will as well. I've used a Fuck before but I wanted more low end so I'm pretty sure this guy will fix it with the two band EQ. I'm turning into a fucking grandpa and only using a reverb and a booster/overdrive with a looper
