The Dyna Comp is ideal for that. If you're not fussed about transparency then it's a good option. The Warden might be overkill if you just want a little extra 'bounce' to your signal, so to speak. Just be aware that the Ross/Dyna Comp circuits and also the infamous Orange Squeeze circuits can be a little noisy and become a little... messy when hit with a heavy signal. Optical compressors, like The Warden, are quieter and can handle hotter signals. Some say they're not as interesting though.

I do a Dynacomp with a parallel mosfet boost, it's quieter than the original too. Could be just the ticket.

How hard was it to build? I've heard compressors are a bit fiddly. Is that right, do you think?

They can be temperamental and there's a solid parts count but I had more trouble with the functionality than the compressor itself. Built a couple of optical Compulator clones that were no hassle. As with anything research helps.
